Position: Lead Plumber

General Statement of Duties:
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Lead Plumber is responsible for day-to-day operation and management of plumbing and gas systems at all CPSD locations. Primary responsibilities include maintenance and repair of plumbing systems; heating, operating building management systems (BMS). Respond to emergency calls, weather related emergencies, and other situations as required to minimize service interruptions, damage to facilities or injury to members of our community. Provide services to enhance energy conservation and reduce utility expense.
Specific Duties:
- Responsible for all plumbing and heating operations at multiple school locations. Install, maintain and diagnose all related equipment. Research and recommend improvements and enhancements. Supervise outside vendors and contractors, ensuring contract compliance.
- Responsible for hot and cold-water distribution within buildings, including back flow preventers, building water, sanitary and acid wastes, pH neutralization systems, drains, vents, fixtures, dishwashers, garbage disposal, hot water tanks, hot water generators, valves, traps, and reducing valves.
- Install, repair and maintain all plumbing and sanitary systems in buildings in accordance with the rules promulgated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
- Join tubing and/or pipes, cuts and threads pipes, solders and brazes joints, mounts compressor and condenser units, connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and related equipment.
- Install and repair hot and cold-water pipes and makes necessary connections:
- Maintain plumbing systems, repairs and replaces defective and leaky water and drain pipes, repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures.
- Maintain and repair boilers, furnaces, air handlers, and other plumbing controls and fixtures; performing inspections and preventative maintenance;
- Change filters in drinking fountains.
- Adjust, test and verify water mixing valves and correct operation.
- Clean clogs and drain line blockages.
- Check equipment for malfunctions; maintains, repairs or replaces defective equipment.
- Review and prioritize assignments, attending immediately to emergency and urgent call
- Promptly respond to emergencies and follow all safety guidelines; adhere to material safety data guidelines and safety protocols;
- Supervise various licensed and skilled Trades Workers who are assisting on the repair, installation and operation of various plumbing equipment. Check work orders, reports and invoices for accuracy.
- Respond to all requests and complaints in a professional, courteous and timely manner.
- Order materials and supplies; work from plans and schedule tests and inspections of work.
- Evaluate and makes recommendations about improvements to services.
- Complete administrative forms and reports as needed.
- Comply with all department and CPSD policies and procedures.
- Exercise sound judgment when using equipment and chemicals, and follow and use approved safety standards and precautions.
- Operate school department vehicles in a safe and reasonable manner.
- Maintain computer and written records, utilize work order systems, and perform minor calculations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Massachusetts Master Plumbers License.
- Current and valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
- At least 5 years experience with various plumbing systems and 3 years of experience with computer based building management systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace plumbing components and controls.
- Thorough understanding of plumbing, gas fitting and sewage systems and equipment;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with email, online time keeping, computerized maintenance management software. School Dude preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations, building and plumbing code.
- Ability to communicate well, with strong writing and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with basic computer data programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, work order systems)
- Exposure to all weather conditions. Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, squat and reach.
- Ability to shovel snow and respond to emergencies in inclement weather.
- Ability to pass CORI and fingerprinting background checks.
Terms of Employment:
Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 6 am until 2:30 pm, 12 months per year. Must have the ability to occasionally work outside of the scheduled hours.
Salary:
