Summary:
This position is in the Rhode Island Hospital Pharmacy Retail location. Under supervision of Pharmacy Supervisor or Pharmacist-in-charge coordinates activities and functions of pharmacy technicians students and support personnel in assigned areas of the department. Orients trains assigns work maintains work schedules and evaluates performance of subordinate staff in keeping with established policies procedures standards of practice and scope of pharmacy services of the respective affiliate. All essential functions performed in this position are in consideration of the aging processes and human developmental stages (neonate child adolescent adult geriatric). Regularly performs duties of other pharmacy technician job categories and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities: Orients trains schedules provides functional guidance to and evaluates performance of subordinate pharmacy technicians students and support staff in assigned areas of responsibility. Continually reviews and analyzes operations recommending and implementing operational changes new technologies etc. that will increase the efficiency and level of service of the pharmacy in collaboration with Pharmacy Supervisor or Manager Participates in the recruitment retention performance enhancement and competency assessment of subordinate staff in collaboration with Pharmacy Supervisor and Pharmacy management team members. Ensures compliance to established policies procedures and relevant labor contracts. Provides actionable feedback to employees to promote effective teamwork and satisfaction in the workplace in consultation with Pharmacy Supervisor or Manager. Participates in the development of tools and standards to establish and improve competency levels of the pharmacy technician student and support staff including orientation of new employees in-service training and competency assessments. Effectively and continually communicates with subordinate staff management and customers to facilitate the flow of operations. Provides timely and accurate communication both written and verbal as appropriate regarding operational changes and continuous quality improvement activities including goals and objectives of the Pharmacy as they relate to assigned areas. Participates in continuous quality assessment and improvement activities and medication safety initiatives. Participates in or leads various committees task forces and performance improvement teams as assigned. Maintains pharmacy information systems electronic drug dispensing system (EDDS; i.e. Omnicell Pyxis) technology and other computerized or automated hardware and software used in the procurement preparation or distribution of pharmaceuticals and related supplies. Performs routine preventive maintenance to all equipment according to standards for it. Oversees medication and pharmaceutical supply purchasing processes including procurement of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies working with hospital wholesaler vendors freight companies managing medication recalls and conducting annual medication inventory. Oversees mandatory safety environmental and infection control education and training programs in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures as well as State and Federal standards. Coordinates as requested the collection of data for quality assessment and improvement activities of the Pharmacy. Ensures monthly quality assurance inspections are completed. Assists in workflow direction of Pharmacy Technicians Pharmacy Technician Specialists and support staff. Performs personnel evaluations participates in recruitment activities scheduling corrective action etc. Regularly performs all duties of other pharmacy technician job categories.
Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High school graduate or equivalence degree with completion of one to two years of college. Successful completion (minimum grade = B) of a high school or college level course in algebra. Successful completion of the Rhode Island Hospital or The Miriam Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training Program Successful completion of national pharmacy technician certification (CPhT). Maintains current national pharmacy technician certification. Maintains current unrestricted licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of Rhode Island. EXPERIENCE: Two to three years progressively more responsible work experience as a pharmacy technician or technician specialist preferably at the Rhode Island Hospital or The Miriam Hospital Pharmacy Consideration may be given to candidates lacking experience as a pharmacy technician where applicant possesses sufficient educational or experiential background in business financial management information systems or related field. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Possesses knowledge of pharmacy information systems electronic drug dispensing technology. Possesses basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Extended periods of time spent standing and walking. Requires the visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
