Position: Lead Operating Engineer
Location: Falls Church, VA
Hours: 7am-3:30pm
Salary: $75,000-85,000
The Lead Operating Engineer (LOE) effectively performs engineering duties, supports, manages, and develops assigned engineers, engages with the onsite client team, partners with the Facility Coordinator, and engages in the technical operation of integrated chiller/plant facility management including electrical, mechanical, and fire suppression systems in a 24x7 environment with no unplanned downtime to the critical load. The LOE advises the Facility Manager about technical issues and recommends engineering solutions to solve building systems problems. The focus of LOE activities shall be to maintain 100% uptime of the facility utilizing the assigned engineer team and vendor partners.
Qualifications
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience in ‘mission critical’ facilities and maintenance.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in central building plant operations and solid knowledge of reliability engineering techniques used in contemporary office and light manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to read electrical & mechanical drawings, wiring schemes, and control diagrams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on technical and engineering documents.
- Ability to diagnose problems in building support systems and make recommendations for solutions in a multi-vendor environment.
- Understanding of low voltage wiring techniques.
- A demonstrated track record of effective problem-solving capabilities.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Strong PC skills, proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
- Moderate understanding of computer hardware architecture.
- Engineering licensure is desired.
Administrative
- Daily Corrigo (CMMS) Use and Oversight.
- Manage Engineer Schedules Including Paid Time Off and Off-Hours Work.
- Parts Ordering (Marketplace).
- Manage Spare Parts Inventory.
- Scheduling of Contractor Service Work (with vendors and client).
- Emergency Response Procedures.
- Utilizing and tracking Engineering Drawings and Technical Records.
- Onsite Record Retention.
Reporting
- Building Infrastructure and Facilities Systems Status Report.
- Critical Spare Parts Reporting.
- Maintenance Performance Report.
- After-Action Reporting (as required).
Managerial
- Provide Oversight and Direction to Engineers.
- Provide Training and Staff Development.
- Respond to emergency calls outside normal working hours.
- Annual Performance Reviews.
Technical
- Holistically Operate Integrated Chiller Plant Facilities.
- Serve as Escalation Point for Engineers Needing Technical Assistance.
- Solve Technical Problems in Building Infrastructure and Facilities Systems.
- Improve/Develop System Maintenance Plans.
- Measure Contractor Service Level Performance.
- Provide Health and Safety Guidelines.
- Testing and Commissioning of Equipment.
- Assist in developing project specific schedules, budgets, and related documentation.
Estimated total compensation for this position: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 USD per year.
