Job Summary and QualificationsThe Microbiology Lead Technologist is responsible for providing patient testing and associated clerical work on neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric inpatients as well as outpatients. She/he also ensures adequate supplies, proper training and orienting new personnel/students. She/he organizes and coordinates employees in her/his charge. She/he reviews QC and maintenance and ensures corrective action is taken and documented for out-of-tolerance values. She/he schedules employees in department/shift according to proper test authorizations, evaluates employees according to their job description, counsels employees, insures testing is done in a timely manner, insures accrediting agencies guidelines are followed, enforces safety and infection control policies, coordinates QA and Process Improvement activities in the department/shift, and provides meaningful input into budget preparation.
What you will do in this role:
- Is able to critically review results and assures that critical values are reported to appropriate personnel.
- Is able to ensure testing is done in a timely manner
- Is able to review QC weekly and assure corrective action is performed, appropriate, and documented.
- Documents routine instrument maintenance.
- Troubleshoots laboratory equipment assuring minimum downtime.
- Assists in interviewing job applicants for department/shift.
- Evaluates employees according to Job Descriptions.
- Properly counsels' employees for section/shift.
- Ensures section/shift properly covered with proper personnel according to each individual’s test authorizations.
- Completes test authorizations
- Participates in the Medicare Laboratory Billing Compliance plan.
- Alert to Errors in own work.
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelors Degree
- Required ASCP
- Preferred 3–5-years clinical experience
