Job Title: Lead Med Tech
Reports To: Assisted Living Manager
Summary
Functions as the primary Med Tech for an assigned group of residents, including direct involvement in all aspects of the medication management process. Establishes and maintains procedures followed by other Med Techs for assigned group of residents. Oversees the medication room, medication distribution, and documentation pertaining to the residents’ medication and health concerns. Functions as the liaison between residents, residents' families, physicians/professionals, and employees, while ultimately ensuring all aspects of the shift run smoothly and efficiently. Support agent to the Medication Management Supervisor. Oversees Med-Techs in the absence of a supervisor.

- Responsible for establishing and maintaining the medication management process for assigned group of residents, ensuring that relief Med Techs have the tools and information needed to successfully pass medication.
- Ensures all residents' medication documentation, medication distribution techniques, physician orders, changes of dosage, and other medication and health concerns are kept current and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates the ordering and delivery of resident medications and maintains accurate records of resident medications.
- Oversees the preparation, pouring, and passing of resident medications by Med Techs, to monitor accuracy, timeliness, and safe practices. Ensures all medication distribution processes are properly completed and documented.
- Assists in training new Med Techs, while fostering a culture of teamwork. Reports all concerns to their supervisor.
- Supports the Medication Management Supervisor with scheduling of Med Techs. Coordinates with Shift Leader to ensure all shifts are appropriately staffed by scheduling direct care staff shifts and assigning duties.
- Receives, inventories, records, and properly files medications. Ensures each resident has their proper medication as ordered by their primary care physician, including but not limited to: prescribed, over-the counter, and PRN medications as well as physician ordered vitamins. Follows up with physicians or other health professionals and documents new orders.
- Prepares, pours, and passes medications in a timely and safe manner and properly documents the pass. Counts controlled drugs at the beginning and end of each shift to ascertain that all controlled drugs are accounted for. Reports possible drug diversion.
- Monitors, documents, and reports any health status changes including: adverse side effects of medication, food intake or lack thereof, and other needs and concerns pertaining to the residents. Participates in the resident service plans to assist with correcting assessments.
- Ensures all residents’ medication is properly supplied. Identifies medications to order; coordinates with pharmacies and families with the re-ordering and delivery of medications.
- Ensures the correct paperwork accompanies each resident to their appointments. • Ensures medication room is locked, sanitary, and stocked with appropriate supplies. • Monitors for potential safety issues and follows all safety procedures to ensure the safety of residents, employees, and guests.
- Assures all residents are accounted for during entire shift. Oversees emergency response system. Stays in communication with staff to ensure calls are answered in timely manner.
- Acts immediately to any resident crisis, applying first aid if needed and summoning 911 when needed. • Attends and participates in in-services and other programs that will promote professional growth and an understanding of federal, state, local, and company policies and regulations. Must participate and satisfactorily complete all initial training and required annual trainings.
- Follows all SV policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, infection control, privacy, confidentiality, and the reporting of elder abuse.
- Required to perform caregiver duties as needed. Other functions as assigned, including work in other areas, if qualified, to cover absence or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise meet the needs of the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May be asked to share performance observations for training and evaluation purposes.

License, Education, and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Current First Aid Certificate; CPR preferred.
Additional Requirements
- 18 years of age or older.
- Must complete Medication Management training and follow all required protocols (such as the MAR and Six Rights of Medication Management).
- Must remain current on annual training requirements.
- Fluent in English.
- Clear DOJ/FBI criminal background check.
- Negative TB test.
- Negative drug screening.
- Health screening clearance.
