About the Job
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and testing of new and existing electromechanical equipment. This position will provide coaching and mentorship regarding mechanical design concepts, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead Design Initiatives: Spearhead design efforts for product development within the Residential Business Units, ensuring alignment with the overall product development roadmap and requirements.
- Innovative Solutions Development: Identify, develop, and deliver innovative and practical solutions that meet product requirements and drive the roadmap forward.
- Specification and Testing Leadership: Lead the creation of specifications, design protocols, and testing methods for new product lines, ensuring rigorous standards are met.
- Product Design and Documentation: Oversee the complete design process, including the analysis and development of mechanical components, systems, and equipment. Manage the creation of assembly and part drawings, and ensure thorough documentation from concept through to manufacturing release. Develop electronic help files related to new products.
- Competitive Benchmarking: Provide data-driven competitive benchmarking and best-of-breed analysis, testing, and research to inform product development.
- Mentorship and Collaboration: Train and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with manufacturing teams during development stages to ensure product manufacturability and design intent are fully realized.
- Research and Innovation: Conduct research on emerging technologies, recommend actionable insights to management, and oversee the implementation of new development technologies.
- Concept Development: Create and refine multiple design concepts to explore different product possibilities.
- Document Control Management: Collaborate with Document Control to develop comprehensive document packages that outline the complete design and implementation of products, including 2-D drawings, Bills of Materials, and Engineering Change Orders. Ensure documentation is updated and maintained for existing products.
- Quality Assurance and Testing: Design and implement testing methods to ensure system and product quality. Test final products and systems, validate fabrication, assembly, and installation processes, and execute testing and validation plans.
- Product Improvement and Troubleshooting: Analyze current designs and products for potential improvements or troubleshooting opportunities.
- Mechanical Engineering Research: Conduct in-depth research into various mechanical engineering issues, including parts and processes, to enhance product development.
- Compliance Verification: Ensure that all design and project objectives meet customer and Leviton requirements, maintaining the highest standards of compliance.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- Experience in concept design within a high volume manufacturing setting to include both automated and manual manufacturing processes
- Experience with electro-mechanical design
- Must have experience utilizing SolidWorks
- PC Board experience preferred
