Job Schedule: 9/80, Monday-Thursday 9 hours day, Friday 8 hours and every other Friday off. 7:00 am 4:30 pm
Site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing! This site is center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.
Seeking a Lead, Material Process Engineer to join the team.
Reporting directly to the Manager, Energetics & Propellant Engineering, this position will support Energetics and Propellant Development.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Chemical Engineering degree.
10+ to 15 years experience.
Experience with energetics and propulsion is a plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Lead, Material Process Engineer applies expertise to directly contribute to the development of new concepts and techniques in the area of energetic materials. This position utilizes material concepts and property modification in the area of energy materials. In addition, an understanding of propulsion concepts is needed.
Qualifications:
Degree in material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or physics
Minimum of 9 years' experience in propulsion field
Preferred Additional Skills:
Background in energetic materials, propellants
Understanding of viscoelastic theory
Understanding of safety testing and procedures

- May plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects
- Analyzes, evaluates, plans and validates methods of approach and organizes means to achieve solution of complex technical problems
- Conducts investigations and tests methods of considerable complexity
- Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects
- Reviews project's progress and evaluates results
- Recommends corrections in technical applications and analysis
- Specifies materials, equipment and supplies required for completion and implementation of technical projects
- Track technical, cost, and schedule components on assigned programs
- Originates whitepapers and proposals to include technical, cost, and schedule components for new programs/opportunities
- Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services
- May provide technical consultation to technical staff or other organizations
- Prepares and presents presentations and reports for distribution to personnel outside the company to communicate technical progress and capabilities
