Summary:
Under general supervision of Mammography Manager Diagnostic Imaging and Medical Director Mammography provides guidance and supervision to mammography technologist and students. Assures efficient scheduling of patients and room availability; develops appropriate work schedules for staff to support anticipated needs. Maintains appropriate inventories of medical and radiology supplies assures operating integrity of equipment and performs clerical and administrative functions as necessary. Maintains highest level of compliance by meeting regulatory needs of but not limited to Food and Drug Administration / MQSA American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission.
Responsibilities:
Regularly reviews patient interaction with staff and monitors image quality. Works with Mammography Manager to conduct periodic FDA EQUIP Reviews and properly documents those efforts and follow-up.
Understands process of tracking abnormal mammograms and pathology follow and ensures proper communication to Mammography Manager of any concerns.
Reviews Medical Audit which includes positivity rate per radiologist with Mammography Manager on a yearly basis.
Ensures Technologists and Technologist Assistants are proficient in PenRad data entry on all exams which provides the basis of department statistics.
Assists Mammography Manager with requisitions for vacant positions. Conducts interviews provides guidance counseling when necessary and assigns work schedules to assure adequate staffing. Observes and documents performance to support Mammography Manger with evaluations of staff technologist. Recommends disciple as needed with support documentation to Mammography Manager.
Monitors School of Diagnostic Imaging for Mammography to ensure proper instruction attendance records progress and performance of mammography students. Ensures educational materials for students to include QC and Physicist review prior to the Mammography registry. Assists primary school contact (a staffed Tech II) with the school program and annual Breast Imaging Seminar.
Reviews and documents daily Q.C. on processors and equipment. Assures proper operating condition of equipment accessories. Arranges for and documents all necessary repairs and service calls made through appropriate personnel within or outside the hospital and requests upgrades schedules cleanings and maintenance services. Inspects for obsolete or damaged equipment or instruments. Serves as liaison to manufacturers to ensure availability of desired equipment.
Monitors conditions in the department and assists Mammography Manager in facilizing work orders and ensuring timely completion of projects.
Informs physicist periodically of equipment performance and schedules time for physics review and testing.
Monitors inventory levels of medical and radiology supplies. Generates order tracks shipments receives and stock items. Ensure all expired items are removed from circulation and ensures staff is using first in first out supply use.
Schedules training when needed and provides technical guidance and assistance as required when demonstrating new techniques and equipment.
Assist Mammography Manager in accreditation of all new equipment and re-accreditation every three years through the American College of Radiology as meeting the applicable requirements.
Assist Mammography Manager with maintaining and updating policies and procedure manuals. Keeps staff informed of all new and/or changes. Responds to policy or procedure request made by the Medical Director. Keep Communication Binder updated with accurate policies as distributed by Brown University Health Rhode Island Hospital Diagnostic Imaging and Mammography Manager to include signature log of all affect staff.
Assists Mammography Manager with annual Mammography Quality Standards Act / FDA Audit. Reviews all pertinent documentation and maintains a working knowledge of the MQSA Audit requirements and process.
Performs all duties and responsibilities of Mammography Technologist and the Mammography Technologist II as noted in those Job Descriptions.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Two years of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiology and Mammography with current license to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Analytical and organizational skills to evaluate needs and effectively plan work assignments and coordinate the day to day operations and schedules of the department including preparing for accreditation�s inspections and meeting deadlines.
Knowledge and ability to operate computerized systems such as Epic PenRad PACS Outlook Word and Excel.
Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients visitors physicians and staff of all levels and to represent the department to other associated facilities and regulatory organizations.
Ability to withstand continuous standing walking pushing lifting and positioning patients.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years progressively more responsible experience performing mammograms and special mammography procedures in a hospital environment.
