Description
The Lead Lifeguard assists in leading and training the lifeguard team, conducting facility safety checks, and communicating staff and equipment needs to Waterpark Leadership. The Lead Lifeguard enforces all Waterpark facility policies, rules, and regulations and maintains direct supervision over lifeguards on surveillance duty. They Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report unsafe conditions or equipment to Waterpark Leadership. They complete records and reports, as well as conduct regular in-service training as assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety of the Island Waterpark guests
- Supervises and trains new lifeguard staff
- Enforces all waterpark policies, rules, and regulations with confidence
- Responds to patron inquiries and concerns as needed/approached
- Assists with the cleaning and care of the waterpark
- Reports any unsafe conditions, or hazards in the workplace to appropriate leadership
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times in accordance with uniform standards
- Participates in pre-season and in-service training of the lifeguard staff
- Performs lifeguard duties as needed to ensure daily success of the park
- Completes additional duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, Assistant Director or Director
Basic Qualifications
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and StarGuard ELITE Lifeguard Training or equivalent
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- Must be safety minded and focused
- Strong attention to detail
- Must work well under pressure and high-stress situations
- Must be able to stay focused on task for long periods of time; be alert
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 season or 3+ Months lifeguarding experience
- Previous supervisor-level experience
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Demonstrates the ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguarding staff in the performance of their duties
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility rules, policies, and procedures
- Leadership qualities and guest service skills
Physical Requirements
- Heavy work - Exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required including weekends and holidays. Time spent may be dictated by the number of clients or groups on property or by the time of the season
- Ability to move frequently throughout the large facility
- Standing and walking for long periods of time
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work in environmental conditions that include, but are not limited to: Wet and humid environments, indoor tropical environmental conditions with up to 90% humidity and warm temperatures in excess of 70F, as well as outdoor environmental conditions
