Zimmerman Associates Inc, (ZAI). has an immediate need for a Lead Librarian – Journal Shifting to manage their project located in Bethesda, MD. The qualified Librarian will be responsible for leading a team of Library Technicians with tasks such as supervision of moving and shelving of sensitive library materials.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise staff of library technicians on the Journal Shifting project of biomedical journals
- Assign, manage and quality control of work of the team with the shifting of materials.
- Develop, maintain and analyze call numbers to provide NLM with total linear space moved per day.
- Prepare daily log of published titles shifted from one location to another.
- Complete weekly written reports on progress of shift along with any issues of concern or questions about the project and submit final written report upon completion.
- Prepare Quality Assurance Plan for project.
- Use of the General Classification system to order items by call number on shelves and bay.
Requirements:
Lead Librarian is required to have the following:
- Master’s degree in library and information studies required.
- At least five (5) years of journal shifting or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain high quality of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Proven experience and knowledge of handling collection materials.
- Proficiency in leading the arrangement of journals using the NLM classification system.
- Experience with providing quality assurance planning to ensure that all collection items involved in the shift shall always be maintained in perfect shelflist order during every phase of the shift.
- Knowledge and experience handling and caring for sensitive materials.
- Ability to estimate allotted space on shelves for future shelving of materials up to five (5) years.
- Ability to perform corrective actions in a short period of time.
- Must present with excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, such as standing, stooping, bending, or walking for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, or pushing carts laden with supplies or library materials.
