This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow ourselves and our business.Job PurposeThis position will manage National Grid’s Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D) program which is designed to improve the gas business through innovation. Key focus areas of this program include customer & worker safety, environmental matters & carbon emission reduction, operational efficiencies, network integrity & reliability, and future of heat innovation.
Key AccountabilitiesManage the portfolio of Consortium RD&D projects, working with internal and external stakeholders to drive projects to closure and realize value for the Company.
Act as the technical lead and main point of contact for all consortium R&D efforts through consortiums (NYSEARCH, OTD, etc.), Joint Industry Projects (JIP), and internal R&D efforts.Identify opportunities to participate in appropriate industry committees (AGA, PRCI, NYSEARCH, GTI/OTD, advisory panels), and opportunities to bring R&D projects to National Grid for internal pilotsAct as Program Administrator for timely review of proposals by Subject Matter Experts (SME),and provide technical evaluation of proposals to determine if the company should fund those initiatives.Act as the first point of contact for internal and external customers or suppliers on issues associated with Gas RD&D projects/programs Manage internal R&D pilots with various company stakeholdersDevelop and promote business cases for new technologies to company stakeholders Prepare Regulatory Filings and Reports in accordance with Company needs, including financials/budgets to support such efforts Perform specialist engineering/design work to support the development of new technologies to enhance the future capacity and efficiency of the gas networkQualificationsBachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering ProgramMeet the qualifications of a Lead level position per the engineering progression guidelines.
(10 years engineering equivalent experience or 8 years with a PE license).Gas utility or energy industry experience requiredExperience in Research & Development and pilot testing / field deployment strategies of new technologies a plusKnowledge and understanding of regulatory issues affecting the industryUnderstanding of industry codes & standards & applicable design standardsExcellent administrative & organizational skillsAbility to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (both internal & external)Strong skills in strategic thinking, problem solving, communication, project management, computer and analytical skillsExhibits high personal standards for commitment to safety, integrity and complianceExhibits intellectual curiosity & eagerness to seek out and learn about new technologiesSelf-Starter with the ability to work independently with little directionMore Information#LI-Hybrid#LI-STR1Downstate NY Salary: $144,000 - $166,000 a yearThis position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
