THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE: 

Ulta is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to lead the development of Ulta’s products. The Software engineering lead will set the product engineering vision and champion its implementation by guiding a team of engineers throughout the agile engineering lifecycle.

The product engineering lead will be cross functional and have full stack knowledge including architectural design, cloud engineering, app/web technologies, SaaS platforms, and API-first implementation inclusive of GraphQL’s API query language.

YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:

• Leadership: Needs to be able to lead highly technical engineering teams, levering their ability to architect software, implement product vision, and deliver code with an agile and iterative model

• Engineering Expertise: Needs to be highly competent in software design patterns, cloud engineering, security, encryption & cryptography, coding languages ranging from javascript (Node.JS, React) to OOP (Java, C#, SWIFT), including POC development

• Team/Cultural Champion: Experience leading engineers and developers as product delivery teams to build a high performing culture rooted in customer centricity while implementing proper coding standards, recommending languages, frameworks & SaaS platforms, and implementing automated testing

• Business & Stakeholder Relationship Management: Experience championing continuous delivery and helping engineers improve their skills, including fostering strong relationships with product owners

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering, Architecture Design and Development

• Demonstrate knowledge of system architecture and implementation features (multi-tenancy, virtualization, graphs, orchestration, elastic scalability)
• Leverage system grade CI/CD pipeline.
• Authentication & Authorization / Integration with identity providers
• Data graph architecture, with focus on data relationship governance and customer data.
• System integration and API implementation.
• Perform assessments on current and desired (scoped) system architecture.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages and relevant technologies (such as Cloud Computing and Infrastructure)

Thought Leadership

• Exercise independent judgment to lead engineers
• Lead in the development, code review, and standards of applications using React, NodeJS, and GraphQL
• Implement solutions in cloud environments leveraging Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure
• Design new solutions and system architecture across a diverse technology stack
• Translate graphic designs into production ready products
• Work with enterprise architecture resources to provide technical expertise
• Partner with Product Owners to identify technical requirements and functional needs of upcoming features.

• Enhance opportunities by identifying new software/service opportunities

• Build overall front-end and back-end solutions

Mentoring

• Act as the coach and mentor to engineers (sr, mid, jr) on their assigned project tasks
• Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success.
• Lead the collaboration cross team members from multiple teams

ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or applicable work experience.
• 6+ years of experience in engineering, planning, managing, delivering, implementing, supporting, training, administering, and/or monitoring solutions in a complex business environment.
• 3+ years demonstrated leadership experience in complex business and technical environments.

• Experience and Proficient in Python/Java is a plus.
• Experience in SQL/JSON/BSON is a plus.
• Knowledge in Jira/SVN/Git source code/JDBC.
• Knowledge of J2EE/Web/Application server and troubleshooting application/server logs is a plus.
• Troubleshooting and Performance tuning
• Retail industry experience is a plus.
• The ability to present advanced technical ideas to a non-technical audience effectively and succinctly.
• Ability to work independently, as a member of a team, or as a team lead. Methodical, hands-on, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
