- The Lead Dentist provides direct, team-based dental care to patients, meeting clinical standards, within the appropriate scope of practice.
- This position also manages staff to achieve COH's strategic objective of providing effective preventative and restorative dental care and education while meeting productivity goals.
- This is a full-time position based out of our Conway Health & Resource Center in S.W. DC.
The salary for this position starts at $137K and up based on experience and education. Indeed provides its own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COH’s range.
- Provides direct dental care to patients daily, following approved protocols, including but not limited to examining teeth and gums for all infections and diseases, preparing charts of mouths and teeth, X-rays and diagnosing diseases and lesions, preparing cavities and filling them with appropriate materials, extracting teeth and roots, treating infections and diseases of the mouth and teeth, administering local and general anesthesia, and preparing fits, adjusting and finishing dentures, crowns, and bridgework.
- Renders corrective and preventive dental treatment to children and conducts dental health education and screening programs in Marie Reed as time allows.
- Instructs oral hygiene and prophylaxis and records information in the chart.
- Maintains the required productivity numbers expected by Community of Hope, as set by the board.
- Uses language translation services per policy to ensure effective and respectful patient communication.
- Precepts dental students and dental externs during their community medicine rotations or externships, as needed.
- Communicate with other providers at COH on issues of patient care, particularly indications of chronic disease discovered during examination.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal guidelines.
- Participates in quality management activities, including peer review which occurs every other month.
- Completes and locks all progress notes within 3 business days after patient visit. Completes all e-refill requests within 3 business days. Completes all billing corrections within 5 business days of the reported correction.
- Documents all patient encounters, including face-to-face, telephone, and electronic communications, in the electronic health record in a timely fashion.
- Uses all mandatory, structured fields as required in the electronic health record. Documents all materials given to the patient in the electronic record.
- Meets with supervisees regularly and provides real-time feedback, training, support, and coaching as needed. Creates meeting agendas, sends meeting agendas in advance when possible, and documents concerns promptly as needed.
- Applies principles learned through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training and/or trauma-informed care training (TIC) and leads with a DEI and TIC lens when appropriate.
- Reviews the performance of team members on time, including completing 90-day and annual performance evaluations per their due dates, documenting any issues or changes, providing recommendations for professional development and/or training opportunities, and recognizing staff when appropriate.
- Partners with the Talent Management team regarding personnel matters including but not limited to, terminations, leaves of absence, training, onboarding, and other COH handbook policies.
- Takes initiative and makes decisions within the scope of work. Assesses situations independently, thinks critically, and takes action to address issues or make useful recommendations while maintaining a solution-oriented lens.
- Delegates tasks appropriately to team members to ensure that team goals and responsibilities are achieved. Prioritizes tasks and directs work to ensure deadlines are met.
- Establishes common goals with their team through communication, inspiring and leading team members, and holding team members accountable. Links team goals and metrics to the overall strategic plan.
- When appropriate, creates opportunities for team building that connect staff to one another and COH”s mission to encourage connection between staff who are virtual, hybrid, and/or on-site.
- Handles sensitive information with care and discretion to ensure confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements:
- Dental Degree (DDS, Board Certified preferred) required.
- Current license or ability to acquire a DC license on time required. Any providers who are licensed in Maryland who provide a copy of their license and MD CDS to Talent Management are also eligible for MD licensure reimbursement.
- Current CDS and DEA are required.
- Continuous dental education to maintain a license is required.
- Current BLS certification (ACLS or BLS for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent) is required.
- Commitment to work with under-resourced communities in an urban setting.
- Ability to work in a non-profit environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Amharic a plus.
- Experience providing supervision preferred.
- Able to work across sites if requested.
- Shares Saturday clinic coverage with other providers by completing at least one Saturday shift per month.
- Able to work evening hours as needed.
