Summary
As the Lead Controls Engineering for an encoder business, you’ll be responsible for designing and developing magnetic sensors. Your key area of innovation will be in creating encoder rotary and/or linear solutions. You’ll make critical technical decisions to ensure high-quality, high-performance products. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll tackle complex technical challenges and deliver outstanding results. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking.
Primary Responsibilities
Work with the product management team and visit customers as needed to understand customer requirements. Develop technical product requirement documents based off product specifications.
Establish and document the essential specifications required for the effective use of encoders in various applications.
Evaluate and compare various encoder technologies to identify and recommend the most suitable product for specific applications.
Develop magnetic components, sub-assemblies, and modules for encoders from concept to transfer to production.
Utilize magnetic design and simulation software (Ansys Maxwell) to perform conceptual design and detailed analysis of magnetic components for encoders.
Collaborate with the larger R&D design team to develop and test new cutting-edge encoders.
Collaborate cross-functionally with the overall team to ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
Investigate, identify, and resolve engineering problems involved in the development and manufacturing of magnetic encoders.
Execute hands-on tasks including precision assembly, integration, and testing to ensure adherence to high performance standards and specifications.
Develop and review test plans, setups, procedures, and data to transition products from R&D to production.
Manage documentation and project details meticulously through all stages of development.
Ability to design with an emphasis on scalability, economy, DFX/DFM for mass production.
General Tasks
Maintain strict compliance with the quality, environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and implementation of the instructions of the quality, environmental management and/or occupational health and safety officer.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
Minimum:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Physics or equivalent field with at least 6+ years of related experience. Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Physics or equivalent field with 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
Experience in the field of rotary and/or linear encoders or sensor technology.
Capable of independent and team-based work, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Able to collaborate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and management, while mentoring less experienced team members.
Travel Requirements
Travel requirements, up to 15% domestic and/or international travel.
Physical Requirements
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Sitting or standing at desk performing repetitive mousing and typing for multiple hours at a time.
