SUMMARY
Support and lead the activities of CNC Machinists to ensure the flow of parts moving through the CNC department efficiently by carrying out job requests of the CNC Department Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a role model to other machinists by being punctual, working until the completion of the shift, and exhibiting the values of the Company.
- Mentor and train employees in the area of CNC Machining.
- Report shop floor problems to Department Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Follow up on shop floor problems.
- Keep the flow of parts moving through the department efficiently.
- Look ahead to make sure machines are not waiting on material or tooling.
- Make sure tool requests and tool re-services are conducted offline.
- Report machine and performance issues on a daily basis.
- Make sure proper process times are on all programs within the department.
- Prove out new programs or rewritten programs and notify Engineering of process changes.
- Work with Engineering on tool testing on a monthly basis.
- Spot-check jobs for proper tool life usage.
- Recognize and reduce tool waste.
- Train employees in all facets of machining and required documentation.
- Work with machinists during set-up and cycle-time reduction.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machine.
- Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, and Grinders.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges and outside diameter gauges.
- Read and understand gauging sheets or SPC critical dimension & check-sheets.
- Read and interpret blueprints to ensure parts are being made according to specifications.
- Listen to machine and tooling to ensure machine and tooling are running properly.
- Operate hoist in order to load parts onto machining center, lathe, or mill.
- Update toolkits; program hard copies, etc., for engineering projects.
- Take jobs down efficiently (tooling, cleaning fixtures, putting gauges back, etc).
