As the Lead Analytical Scientist you will be responsible for developing a new Analytical Lab in our Bedford, MA facility. You will develop new analytical methods, lead analytical capability improvements, develop SOP's and work instructions, maintain analytical equipment, support customer requests and lead a small team of Laboratory Technicians.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Analytical Chemist who is results oriented, collaborative and has knowledge of thin film/coating metrology.
In this role you will:- Supervise, train & mentor a team of Laboratory Technicians on analytical instruments, methods and SOP's and to complete laboratory projects according to customer requirements and deadlines
- Safely perform thin film/coatings analysis to support current products, new product development and customer requests
- Collaborate with R&D teams to develop new analytical techniques to meet product requirements
- Continuous improvement for existing analytical methods to meet growing customer demand
- Establish detection limits, accuracy, precision, and stability for analytical methods via MSA methodology
- Design, set up, and execute experiments - analyze data and communicate results to the team (or customers) via technical reports and presentations
- Provide technical support to sales, marketing, and global R&D
- Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), work instructions, reports, and audits, including MSA and V&Q documentation
- Maintain and support lab practices and documentation per relevant ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 requirements
- Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation (hardness measurement, nanoindentation, scratch adhesion, profilometer, and optical/confocal microscopy)
- This role requires up to 20% travel, both domestic and international, to support customer and business unit and develop technical skills
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field of study is required; Master's Degree or PhD preferred
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience required
- General lab instrument operations, maintenance and troubleshooting experience is required
- Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role is preferred
- Experience working within a laboratory that conforms to ISO 17025 & ISO 9001 standards
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and to influence decisions across multiple layers of the organization
- Knowledge of proper safe handling/disposal of chemicals and ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace
- Ability to conduct projects independently, navigate through ambiguity and to rapidly respond to new situations and changing business needs
