Classification: Non-Exempt Hourly
Position Description
Performs day-to-day activities of the laundry department to ensure provision of quality laundry service compliance in accordance to Federal, State and Local ordinance and regulations. Ensures the environmental and linen cleanliness and sanitation for resident safety comfort and convenience.
Principal Responsibilities
• Performs a variety of general housekeeping/cleaning duties in various areas to maintain the center in a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly condition; Performs all general laundry duties.
• Coordinates inventories of clothing and personal items brought in with new residents and marks with proper identification.
• Coordinates picking up brutes with soiled linen from each wing throughout shift; Prepares articles for washing by unbuttoning, turning pockets out, and unrolling sleeves; Sorts soiled laundry into appropriate loads for washing. • Coordinates standard washing procedures to add soap solution and other chemicals to wash.
• Coordinates drying of linens and resident’s clothing in dryer. • Coordinates pressing of garments; Checks condition of linens for worn spots or tears; Folds linen and returns sufficient amount of linen to clean linen room on each wing for needs of day; Distributes laundry to appropriate resident.
• Ensures clothing is returned to residents following laundry services; Reports unmarked clothing to social services department; Disposes of unmarked clothing left in laundry.
• Maintains equipment used in performing duties; Cleans washers and dryers, cleans dryer lint filters every two hours, and soap dispensers at end or near end of shift; Brushes spillage from floor into drain; Cleans brutes and replace liners daily as assigned.
• Monitors and replenishes cleaning products as required; Inventories stock to ensure adequate supplies; Uses industrial cleaning equipment and products.
• Knowledge and ability to demonstrated understanding of sanitation regulations and team management abilities.
• Makes recommendations to improve service and ensure more efficient operation.
• Works with residents, nurses, physicians, department leaders and other staff members regarding laundry services requests, infection prevention, service resolution opportunities, and other interdepartmental matters. Provides timely follow-up for information to requesting departments.
• Receives assignments from supervisor and follows cleaning schedule as outlined for housekeeping department to clean work space, entrances and exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, halls, etc.; Performs emergency housekeeping.
• Follows work assignments from supervisor and performs assignments from supervisor, not limited to, cleaning lint from dryers, vents and registers in resident rooms and other areas; Keeps grounds cleared of debris; Cleans, dusts, washes, and disinfects all fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings, as required; Changes slip covers, scarves, doilies, etc. when soiled and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion; Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, windows, window sills, etc.
• Supports the housekeeping/laundry department by fulfilling vacant positions as needed by the center. • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or assigned at any time with or without notice. General Responsibilities
• Attends and participates in scheduled training, educational classes, and meetings to maintain current certification as applicable; Attends and participates in in-service training as mandated by regulatory agencies and company policy.
• Adheres to work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks; completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner as instructed by the direct supervisor.
• Meets acceptable center attendance requirements; notifies facility before late arrival to or absence from work according to established center policy.
• Cooperates with other facility personnel to ensure that services can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of residents; creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment.
• Adheres to established employee policies.
• Adheres to established dress code.
Customer Service Responsibilities
• Models customer service principals throughout the center and promotes appreciation of our customer’s needs. • Treats residents, residents’ family members, visitors and fellow employees with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
• Presents professional image through appearance, behavior and speech.
• Explains procedures to residents before administering services. Residents Rights • Understands, upholds and promotes the rights of the residents.
• Ensures residents can exercise rights without interference, coercion, discrimination, or reprisal from the facility. • Ensures protected health information is kept confidential.
• Ensures resident concerns/complaints are responded to with tact and urgency. • Reports allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of resident property.
• Coordinates effective communication with Residents and Companions by assuring all arrangements for providing interpreters and/or other auxiliary aids and services needed by Residents and Responsible Party are made. Safety and Sanitation
• Reports observations concerning structural, equipment, and furniture defects and malfunctioning to appropriate personnel.
• Follows established safety policies and procedures.
• Identifies and corrects safety hazards; reports safety concerns as required. • Observes safety needs of residents as indicated in care plan.
• Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use.
• Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations. Staff Development
• Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes and meetings to maintain current certification as applicable and as managed by regulatory agencies and company policies.
• Ensures that small group meetings are held per company policy.
• Communicates new Policy & Procedures and regulations to staff to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
• Highschool diploma or equivalency preferred.
• One year’s work experience in a commercial establishment with knowledge of laundry/housekeeping procedures.
Travel
• Minimal travel for center supplies and materials; may travel to company centers for project support.
Principal Contacts
• Works closely with laundry personnel to provide direction, and residents and/or families to insure the provision of acceptable laundry service
