Job Description
The Police Officer is responsible for protecting people and property and will perform all activities associated with federal, state, and local law enforcement, which includes patrolling an assigned post; responding to calls and complaints; maintaining order; pursuing, subduing, and disarming suspects; enforcing crowd control; and responding to emergencies.
The ideal candidate is at least 21 years old, has high school diploma or GED, and is a certified police officer with at least two years of experience. Candidates must successfully complete all required training and must pass all required testing and examinations, including a criminal background check, polygraph examination, physical examination, and psychological examination. A valid Maryland class D or C non-commercial driver’s license with no more than 3 points and a relatively clean driving record are required.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have a valid Maryland class D or C non-commercial driver’s license with no more than 3 points and a relatively clean driving record (no DUI or DWI convictions, including Probation Before Judgement)
- Must be a certified police officer with at least two (2) years of law enforcement experience
- Must have satisfactory performance evaluations from a law enforcement agency and must be free of disciplinary action or pending disciplinary action
- Must be able to testify in court
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to pass a polygraph examination, physical examination, psychological examination, and any other testing requirements
- Must be in good physical condition
- Must successfully complete any police training required for the position, such as comparative compliance program, field training officer program, in-service training, firearms, etc.
- Must be of good moral character with no felony arrests or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, domestic violence, perjury, or false statement
- Must be able to analyze situations quickly, unemotionally, and objectively to determine a proper course of action
- Must be familiar with police radios, telephones, firearms, a variety of law enforcement equipment, court procedures and testimony, officer safety skills and techniques, and traffic control procedures
- Must have common sense and good problem solving skills
- Must have good writing and verbal communication skills
