LOCATION OF POSITION - LANGDON, ND
Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering of Langdon, ND is looking for a motivated self-starter who is looking to join our team with the possibility of advancement within our company. We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but have also done work across the state of ND. We have continued to grow our client base and projects over the past 28 years, striving to provide the most accurate and quality services for our clients. We are a small company where every employee plays an important role. This position will work in both public and private sectors providing topographic, boundary/cadastral, construction, ALTA, As-built, land development, easement, residential, farmstead, lake lots and commercial surveying. We also design open channel drains and have helped create 30 assessment drains in northeastern ND. In addition, we do other engineering projects such as site design and layout for convenience stores, agricultural facilities and commercial buildings. LSIT will work under the direct supervision of a Licensed Surveyor.
The advantage of working for a small firm is you get to take a project from conception to construction. Applicant will be performing a wide variety of different types of surveys which is both rewarding and challenging. Overnight travel is extremely rare, which makes this desirable for any individual with a family or for individuals who are tired of excessive overnight travel. This position is an excellent opportunity that may lead to a more prominent role as a Survey Party Chief which would include becoming responsible for bidding projects, overseeing, scheduling and managing the daily operations of multiple survey crews.
Employer has discretion to make this a salaried position or full-time hourly M-F with some possible overtime. Wage depending on experience. $70,000 - $85,000 per year
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, contours, etc. through the use of conventional surveying and GPS methods. Prepares accurate field notes, drawings and records change in conditions while in field.
- Perform simple surveying calculations, research existing record information, including maps, plans, deeds, easements and right of way documents, physical evidence and legal descriptions.
- Has a general knowledge of, or if licensed, may be required to write or review legal descriptions associated with right of way documents, plats and record of surveys.
- Delegates survey tasks to other survey technicians under his/her direct supervision and perform quality control checks of their data. Instruct, train and mentor survey technicians.
- Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with the Survey Party Chief on a consistent basis by providing updates and progress during all phases.
- Ensure schedules and productivity objectives are achieved.
- Ensure survey vehicle is supplied with stakes, flagging, lath, etc.
- Responsible for keeping track of oil changes or routine maintenance due on survey vehicle or UTV in advance so they can be scheduled for maintenance in a timely manner.

Job Requirements and Qualifications
- LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) or 3 or more years of experience with capability of writing the LSIT within 1 year for the State of North Dakota.
- Learn and follow surveying methods and standards as required by state agencies.
- Excellent computer and technical skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCad/Civil 3D.
- Must be detail orientated, self-motivated with the ability to think independently, and have strong listening, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to speak and write English clearly.
- Trimble survey equipment and robotics experience preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record and provide a drug test if asked to do so.
- Applicant will be both indoors and outdoors and be capable of lifting 50-75# and do manual field labor tasks such as clearing vegetation, driving in rebar/lathe for staking, be able to walk on uneven terrain and be capable of standing or walking for long periods.
- Proven work history with strong work ethic.
- Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
