About the Job
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, maintains public sidewalks, trees, grounds, facilities and storm sewers by operating a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment. Performs semi-skilled/skilled masonry work on streets.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential
- Repairs of street/sidewalk, installation of drainage pipes and cleaning of ditches.
- Provides maintenance and construction to sections of asphalt and concrete streets.
- Responsible for maintaining or reporting of maintenance needs on a variety of equipment, structures and facilities.
- Operates snowplow equipped trucks to spread salt and other snow removal activities.
- Responsible for landscaping, beautification and plant care activities.

- Basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry work
- Availability through on-call response to assist other divisions during emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Education and Experience:
Completion of a high school education or GED.
Skills:
· Ability to operate variety of vehicles and heavy equipment.
Knowledge:
· Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in general maintenance of streets.
· Knowledge of concrete construction.
· Knowledge of safety precautions.
· Knowledge of traffic law and ordinances/regulations involved in equipment operations.

Physical Demands:
· Required to frequently stand, walk, operate heavy equipment, lift up to 50 pounds and bending.
· Required to occasionally sit, drive motor vehicles, climb stairs/ladders, squat, crawl, or reach.
· Frequent exposure to working around hazardous machinery, loud noises and extremes in temperature.
License(s):
· Class E Commercial Driver’s License (within 60 days of employment)
· Class B Commercial Driver's license (within 6 months of employment)
