LABORER (PART-TIME) - BUILDING MAINTENANCE - City of Weslaco

Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing a variety types of general maintenance trade work and repair of buildings and grounds. Employee utilizes skills normally associated with carpentry, plumbing, masonry and construction to ensure the proper maintenance and repair of City of Weslaco assets.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City buildings and grounds.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; moves building contents from one building to another.
- Repair water and sewer leaks as necessary; operates specialized equipment to make repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use hand and power tools to prepare, remove, and install all types of fences.
- Empties trash cleans bathrooms and waxes floors as necessary.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
- One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.
- Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
- Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Read and interpret instructions regarding the safe and efficient use of equipment.
- Pay careful attention to details.
- Effective motor skills necessary to operate department vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken to ensure employee safety.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Work is performed both in office and outdoor environments.
- Exposed to equipment/machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, oil, dirt and/or grease.
- Working under extreme weather conditions, excessive heat, and/or excessive cold for long periods of time.
- Standing/walking most of the work period, moving in /about construction sites over rough terrain.
