CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Incumbent is responsible for performing routine labor functions in the Parks Maintenance Division.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Non-standard, rotating shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays; to be scheduled no more than 29 hours per week. Incumbent works outdoors and is exposed to extreme temperatures.
The ideal candidate will have maintenance experience in any of the following areas: buildings, grounds, turf, ball fields, landscaping, light or heavy construction, operation of light or heavy equipment and tools. They would be familiar with normal construction safety procedures and practices and would have experience in working outside during inclement weather, summer heat and winter cold. Good customer service and communication skills are a must.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) and minimal experience performing duties related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job such as those listed below.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Arizona Driver's License of appropriate class.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Performs building facilities general maintenance and repairs, including janitorial services/duties.
Cleans and maintains City sidewalks.
Programs gate card readers.
Checks, installs and repairs irrigation systems.
Mows, weeds, plants, prunes, spreads seeds, fertilizes and trims.
Marks fields and sets-up for special events.
Inventories supplies and materials.
Performs water sampling; reviews data results and assists with research should violations occur.
Researches and interprets applicable regulatory standards and statutes.
Assists the Division with preparing correspondence and reports to regulatory agencies.
Maintains regular attendance.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in construction, landscaping, and building facilities maintenance.
Irrigation and water systems.
Basic construction methods, including electrical systems, pipefitting, welding and fabrication and masonry.
Safety precautions.
City codes and ordinances, traffic laws and blue stake laws.
Water sampling.
Maintaining and repairing equipment.
Using hand and power tools.
Reading and interpreting blueprints.
Performing construction related activities.
Operating various equipment related to assignment.
Performing traffic control.
Performing landscape activities.
Installing and repairing irrigation and water systems.
Using and storing chemicals, herbicides and pesticides.
Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
