About the Job
The City of Red Bank has an immediate opening for a Laborer 1. This is a full-time position that performs a variety of manual labor tasks in areas such as streets, parks, sanitation, and the removal of yard waste.
JOB OVERVIEW
The right candidate will achieve by:
Demonstrating the ability to follow directions.
Demonstrating an ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Demonstrating proficiency in the operation of various hand tools while using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Supervision Received: The employee works under the general supervision of the Street Division Operations Supervisor. On occasion, independent judgment must be used to accomplish tasks.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Salary and Benefits:
(G1) $37,895.00 annually - Day Shift M-F 8:30a-4:30p + excellent benefits.

forces of the United States.
After having met the above requirements, candidates must successfully complete the following:
- Oral interview board composed of a combination of departmental members.
- A comprehensive background check, including but not limited to, criminal, financial, and personal history.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a variety of general labor duties, for example, painting, mowing, trash removal, brush removal, tree and vegetation trimming, building maintenance, and general parks and street maintenance, all on city-owned property or the public right-of-way.
- Performs custodial duties at city-owned properties
- Performs repairs of parks, playgrounds, and related equipment
- Removes debris from streets, right-of-way, catch basins, drainage ways, and other city property
- Works as part of a construction crew on road repairs and other city-owned areas of responsibility
- Assists skilled laborers in the performance of their duties
- Safeguards, cleans and maintains city-owned equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Performs traffic flagging operations when required
- Serves as backup labor for similar positions in other divisions as required.
- Must be available for established on-call procedures for after-hours emergent situations
- All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Employee must be able to solve problems in situations that deal with day-to-day operations
- Must have the ability to communicate technical information and requirements in a clear and accurate fashion both verbally and in writing
- Must be proficient in the use of a Smart Phone, Tablet, radio, and similar communication devices
- Must be able to complete forms using words and numbers, etc.
- Must have the ability to develop rapport with a variety of people and elicit cooperation
- Must have the ability to organize daily work schedule, meet all deadlines, and track work details
- Must be able to answer questions with brief responses or provide standard information to customers, citizens, supervisors, etc.
- Must have the ability to make prompt decisions based on adopted codes, ordinances, policies, and standards.

- Pickup Truck
- Small Dump Truck >26,000 lbs. GVWR
- Hand tools (chain saw, mowers, trimmers, shovels, tamps, landscape equipment, etc.)
- Street maintenance equipment (hot box, crack sealer, thermoplastic machine, etc.)
- Electronic communication devices
- Streets and Roads Traffic Control Devices
- Janitorial Equipment
- Personal Protective Equipment
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid State Issued Class "D" Driver's License
- Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - High school education or GED
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
