Responsibilities
**Position Summary:**
A full-time Laboratory Research Technician III position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Chia-Lung Wu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Center for Musculoskeletal Research. The Wu lab utilizes bioengineering, cellular biology, next-generation sequencing techniques and genome editing tools, complemented by animal models to uncover mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal tissue development and disease pathogenesis.
This position requires some prior experience with mouse handling, mouse and human tissue harvest and sample processing, molecular biology skills (PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blotting, etc.), cell culture skills (mammalian and bacterial cell culture), data analysis/interpretation, excellent organizational skills, and careful attention to detail. Interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Excellent organization skills and time management. Must be willing to work with mouse and human samples. Familiar with Microsoft Office software.
Hours of the position are 9:00am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday (flexible), work on limited weekends (very rarely) may be required.
**Specific Responsibilities:**
+ Performs molecular biological techniques including PCR, qRT-PCR, Western blots, flow cytometry and cell sorting
+ Dissection of embryonic and postnatal mouse as well as human musculoskeletal tissues, sectioning of paraffin or frozen tissues, histological staining, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization of samples. (Training provided). (20% effort)
+ Isolation of human cartilage/bone samples from the operating room in coordination with Orthopaedic surgeons at the University of Rochester (IRB approved protocols) (20% effort)
+ Assist rodent surgical procedures (Training provided).
+ Maintenance of a detailed lab notebook with experimental detail, methods, data compilation and analysis (training of data analysis provided).
+ General lab management and maintenance: Ensures timely input of lab orders. Prepares buffers, media solutions, and reagents and other solutions. Manages lab inventory including purchasing of supplies and services. Maintains general lab cleanliness.
+ General Laboratory Safety: Ensures lab safety requirements are up-to-date and implemented.
+ Orients and trains new lab members: any new rotating/permanent graduate students, as well as new post-doctoral candidates and visiting scientists requiring training in laboratory methods and procedures.
+ Participate in lab meetings and relevant seminars, including meetings with the PI and collaborating investigators.

**Requirements:**
+ Associate's degree in appropriate discipline required
+ 2-3 years specialized work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
+ Cell culture, PCR experience required
