Responsibilities
**General Purpose:**
There is a full-time laboratory technician III available in the Maquat / Proschel labs. The individual will be part of a research team working to identify novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of Fragile X Syndrome, the most common single-gene cause of autism spectrum disorder. Duties will include laboratory work related to molecular and cellular biology in the fields of stem cell biology and neurological disease, with a focus on Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and Fragile X syndrome. Approaches utilize mouse models and cultured cells, including organoids. The individual will perform a variety of moderately complex laboratory experiments. Position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. High school diploma or GED plus 2 years specialized experience in related field required. BA/BS in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Procedures performed and equipment used:
Animal husbandry, tissue isolation, stem cell culture procedures. RNA isolation and RT-QPCR, protein isolation, gel electrophoresis, image capture and analysis, immunofluorescent analyses.
Supervision: This position reports to Lynne Maquat, Ph.D and Chris Proschel, Ph.D. After a period of initial guidance and training, this position requires that the individual be able to execute experiments independently, analyze data, and help troubleshoot results. This person will also occasionally help train and/or guide others in existing lab techniques
This position is uniquely suited as a launching point for research (PhD) or medicine (MD), and enables entry into a future career in regenerative medicine (both academia and industry).
**Responsibilities:**
Performs routine cell culture preparations of rodent and human cell lines.
Plans and performs a variety of cellular and molecular experiments and analyses investigating RNA processing, gene expression, protein analysis.
Assists with animal colony management and tissue harvest.
Maintains detailed lab journal. Records and calculates results. Presents data in prescribed formats.
Uses input from PI and lab members to trouble shoot experiments and equipment malfunctions. Independence in problem solving is highly encouraged.
Performs general laboratory duties such as preparing reagents and re-stocking supplies and maintenance of cryopreservation systems. Helps to ensure laboratory compliance for biosafety, EHS and fire inspections. Other job duties and tasks as assigned.
Participates in lab and research meetings.

**Qualifications:**
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering or a related field (preferred).
+ 2 years specialized experience in related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Highly motivated, ability to multitask, good organizational abilities, and ability to work well as part of a team (preferred)
+ Preferred experience in the field of molecular and cell biology, including sterile technique and tissue culture methodologies. **Pay Range**
Pay Range: $16.49 - $23.08 Hourly

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
