Laboratory Supervisor II (Lab) - Auto Chemistry

Location: DeLand, FL

Shift: Night Shift

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Supervisor II to lead the Auto Chemistry department at our partner healthcare facility in DeLand, FL. This is a crucial leadership role, responsible for overseeing the night shift team and ensuring the efficient operation and quality assurance of the laboratory.

Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership & Oversight:
  • Provide direction, communication, and oversight to the team regarding workflow and departmental tasks.
  • Ensure adherence to procedures and quality assurance requirements.
  • Participate in and/or lead the development and compliance of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource to teammates, providing oversight and support for training and competency programs.
  • Monitor performance against established targets and metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the department and across lab business lanes.
• Direct Report Management:
  • Facilitate the resolution of organizational obstacles.
  • Implement and communicate employment policies and procedures, awards, and opportunities within the company.
  • Foster a positive work environment.
  • Assist in teammate development (performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, training).
  • Manage teammate employment activities, including hiring, promoting, evaluating, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain teammate records, including performance evaluations and compensation, in compliance with policies and laws.
  • Review teammate timecards and approve time off requests.
• Workflow & Delegation:
  • Monitor workflow and delegate responsibilities to team members effectively.
  • Establish staffing plans to optimize resource utilization.
  • Resolve operational and quality issues related to workload.
  • Ensure adequate coverage during teammate absences.
  • Cover the workbenches as needed.
• Quality Improvement & Safety:
  • Maintain an active role in the laboratory's quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, turnaround time, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and established laboratory outcome standards.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement section-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biological sciences, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 6-8 years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Supervisor.
• Licensure: Florida Supervisor's license in Chemistry.
• Certification: Certified by a professional laboratory certifying agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT).
