SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a Lab Assistant to join our Community Clinics team. This full-time role will work 80 hours within a two week pay period with start times fluctuating between 8 and 9 AM. Role will cover the following clinics: Brooklyn Park, Clinic and Specialty Center in Minneapolis, East Lake, Golden Valley, Richfield and Whittier.
Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs work that involves collecting and/or processing laboratory specimens, entering data into the electronic health record (EHR) and/or the laboratory information system (LIS). Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner
A $1000.00 hiring incentive is available for eligible external candidates (current employees, contract/temporary workers, and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ambulatory (Community Clinics/CSC)
- Assists in maintaining supplies and helping with inventory
- Assists with training of new staff members and students
- Performs standard procedures for the collection of laboratory samples including but not limited to:
- Patient identification
- Venipuncture collection
- Capillary collection
- Urine collection
- Documentation of collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Reviews and releases patient laboratory orders in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Reviews, orders, and collects patient laboratory orders from an outside facility according to standard operating procedures
- Properly processes and distributes specimens following collection
- Explains collection processes and procedures to patients, customers, and their families
- Prepares specimens for send out to reference laboratory (HHS Main Campus), including properly labeling, aliquoting of specimens, and any associated LIS documentation (transfer lists)
- Prepares, performs, and documents select testing according to standard operating procedures for which they have received applicable training and supervisor approval to perform
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified or certified-eligible with a nationally accredited phlebotomy association

- Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses

- Six Months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
