Lab Technician (2nd Shift, Monday-Friday) - Component Repair Technologies

The Lab Technician performs chemical and metallurgical laboratory tests to validate and control various shop processes. This position will conduct a variety of monitoring and testing duties in support of multiple departments that repair turbine engine components used primarily in the aerospace industry. Responsibilities may include wet chemistry testing of process solutions, metallurgical testing, and the evaluation of various metallic specimens.

The Lab Technician additionally monitors and performs preventative maintenance and adjustments to laboratory test equipment and further monitors and ensures regulatory requirements are followed.

Through our extensive in-house training program, the successful applicant will be instructed via a series of computer based and hands-on training, the necessary skills of the position. This position operates from a climate-controlled environment.

1.Analytical testing of chemical tanks includes the collection of samples, performing titrations, maintaining lab records, and performing math calculations.

2.Maintain chemical tanks, including cleaning of tanks, preparing new solutions, and performing chemical additions as may require.

3.Perform metallurgical prep, microscopic evaluation and mechanical testing of thermal spray coatings and other metallic structures.

4.Prepare and label chemical etchants & reagents for various departments throughout the facility.

5.Responsible for storage of chemical waste containers and incoming chemicals. Must adhere to the safety and regulatory requirements regarding the use and storage of chemicals.

6.Manage and maintain chemical inventory via online database system.

7.Properly label chemical waste containers following RCRA regulatory standards.

8.Frequently move chemical containers (up to 50lbs) and pallets containing 55-gallon drums using the following equipment: pallet jack, forklifts, cranes, hoists, carts, or other handling methods.

9.Responsible for daily maintenance and general housekeeping of lab equipment and glassware.

10.Machine reusable test coupons by using a manual lathe machine.

11.Assist with the prep work for engineering tasks associated with repair processes as assigned.

12.Communicate with all employees as a member of the organizational team.

1.Associates degree (or higher) in scientific field of study - (Preferred but not Required).

2.Ability or experience following directions and reading work instructions.

3.Demonstrated ability or experience in being able to effectively communicate with team members, including structured training.

1.Good basic math skills, such as decimals and percentages.

2.Careful attention to detail and capable of handling multiple tasks.

3.Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.

4.Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

1.Regularly work with chemicals, metals, and associated testing equipment.

2.Work in a laboratory setting with regular exposure to the manufacturing floor, machines and components.

3.Use of safety and personal protective equipment under some conditions. The following is not required for all procedures.

a.Ear plugs.

b.Safety glasses.

c.Uniform/Lab Jacket.

d.Face shield.

e.Tychem suits.

f.Respirator.

4.This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may include a vision test.

5.Use powered and non-powered tools and general manual machining lathes.
