- Strong knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
- Knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.
- Knowledge in laboratory quality assurance procedures.
- Demonstrates effective teamwork.
- Strong attention to detail skills.
- Proficient in basic computer skills.
- Demonstrates quality customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others' work flow.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Performs pre analytical and post analytical portions of laboratory tests within scope of practice under Tennessee Medical Laboratory Act.
- Performs clerical duties as required.
- Maintains inventory and stocking of supplies and equipment in the laboratory areas according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
- Follows established procedures for laboratory quality assurance, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, safety, competency, and policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Invasive and non-invasive patient contact throughout the shift.
- Exposure to patient body fluids.
- Must be able to react quickly in emergency situations.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate both orally and written to other individuals.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 lbs. periodically throughout the shift.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat and kneel periodically throughout shift.
- Must be able to reach, bend, and twist periodically throughout shift.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- Use of hands for gripping and squeezing, as well as repetitive hand to wrist motion.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination.
- Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual perception.
