Location: Washington, D.C. (and remote)
Duration: 3 month+ contract
Pay rate: $18.27/hour
Schedule: PT (6-10 hours per week)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and culturally sensitive Korean Bilingual Research Associate to join our team for a community-based research project focused on understanding the pathways to suicide among older adults, the role of faith communities in suicide prevention, and options for seeking health and mental health support. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in engaging with the Korean-speaking community, conducting research activities, and contributing to data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on mental health outcomes for older adults through culturally informed research and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Community Engagement: Build and maintain trusting relationships with Korean-speaking older adults, community organizations, and faith leaders to facilitate participation in the research study.
• Data Collection: Conduct interviews, focus groups, and surveys in both Korean and English with study participants, ensuring cultural sensitivity and confidentiality.
• Participant Recruitment: Actively recruit participants from Korean-speaking communities, including faith-based organizations, senior centers, and other local networks.
• Translation & Interpretation: Provide accurate translation of research materials, consent forms, and survey tools between Korean and English, and interpret during interviews and meetings as needed.
• Data Management: Record, transcribe, and organize qualitative and quantitative data in compliance with ethical research standards.
• Community Insights: Analyze findings to identify themes related to suicide pathways, faith-based prevention strategies, and health-seeking behaviors.
• Reporting & Dissemination: Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and academic publications, and assist in sharing findings with community stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, social work, sociology, or a related field (would also accept someone currently studying these fields at a university).
• Fluent in both Korean and English, with strong oral and written communication skills in both languages.
• Experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research, particularly in community settings.
• Familiarity with Korean cultural norms, values, and the role of faith communities in promoting health and well-being.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with older adults and diverse populations.
• Proficiency in data management software (e.g., Excel, NVivo, SPSS) is a plus.
• Ability to travel locally for community outreach and data collection.
• Passion for mental health and suicide prevention research.
