The Kitchen Manager works closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction while controlling costs and maximizing profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation & Quality Control:
- Supervise food preparation, cooking, and presentation to ensure quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain standardized recipes and cooking techniques.
- Ensure that meals are prepared in accordance with company standards and health regulations.
- Staff Management & Training:
- Hire, train, and supervise kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, dishwashers, and other kitchen personnel.
- Schedule staff shifts and ensure proper staffing levels during peak hours.
- Provide ongoing training in food safety, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
- Conduct performance reviews and address performance issues.
- Inventory Management:
- Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering and maintaining supplies.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure availability while minimizing waste.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source quality ingredients at competitive prices.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure the kitchen operates in compliance with all local health codes and regulations.
- Implement food safety practices and ensure kitchen staff follow proper hygiene and sanitation procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and storage areas.
- Budget & Cost Control:
- Monitor food costs and kitchen labor to meet financial objectives.
- Work with management to prepare and manage kitchen budgets.
- Identify areas for cost reduction while maintaining quality standards.
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure efficient order execution and customer satisfaction.
- Address customer complaints or special requests in a professional manner.
- Maintain positive communication with other departments (e.g., front-of-house and management).
- Menu Development & Innovation:
- Assist in the creation and modification of the restaurant menu to meet customer preferences and market trends.
- Test and incorporate new recipes and food items into the menu.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Oversee the maintenance of kitchen equipment and ensure they are in working order.
- Ensure the kitchen operates smoothly during peak times with minimal disruptions.
- Resolve operational challenges and implement improvements to optimize efficiency.
- Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Executive Chef, or similar leadership role in a kitchen environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen best practices.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other departments.
- Budgeting and inventory management experience.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods.
- Full-time position with evening, weekend, and holiday availability required.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in hot, noisy conditions.
