Kids Club Director - The Salvation Army Eastern Territory

The Salvation Army’s Chelsea/E. Boston Corps is hiring a Kids Club Director and offers excellent benefit package to eligible employees including:

Pay Range:  $20 to $23 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS

1. The Kids Club Director (program administrator) shall be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the following sets of requirements:

1. Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in child development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, and Nursing. Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology or Childcare and have six months experience working with school age children; and have six months of administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education; or
2. Have a bachelor’s degree in any field or an associate degree in any of the fields listed in 102 CMR 7.32 (2) (a) 1; and have eighteen months working with school age children; and have six months administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject are from an accredited institution of higher education; or
3. Have a high school diploma or equivalent; and have four years of experience working with children, two-thirds of which is with school age children and have one year of administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education.

1. Have a minimum of six months (one year preferred) experience working with school-age children
2. Experience with Christian Education Programs for school age children such as Sunday School or Vacation Bible Study preferred
3. Must be able to plan, prepare and implement day-to-day activities.
4. Must have a keen interest and sincere appreciation for children
5. Must be able to delegate duties to staff.
6. Represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual ministry and social mission in the Childcare Program
7. Current Certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid, or its equivalent and CPR.

Direct an in-house after school/day camp program Monday-Friday for 40 children.

1. Responsible for working with Corps Officer and other staff to ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
2. Conduct staff interviews orientation and training and initial and annual performance evaluations.
3. Supervise all childcare personnel and volunteers.  Report any misconduct of staff, volunteers, and/or parental concerns immediately to the Corps Officer/HR Manager. Administer disciplinary action as needed with consultation from the Human Resources 
4. Conduct weekly staff meetings to review plans, guidelines, and any challenge faced.
5. Delegate responsibilities to staff as needed.
6. Design program schedule and activities, develop policies and procedures, prepare, and annually update the Program Manual, Enrollment Form, Medical Form, Parent Manual, Attendance Sheets, etc., as needed
7. Bill agencies (i.e., DSS/ CRCC/ Department of Education, etc.) and remain informed about current childcare issues and act as an advocate for the Kids Club.
8. Monitor the Kids club budget and assist Corps Officers with the yearly revision.
9. Conduct parental and child interviews. Enroll children and maintain current and accurate files on each child.
10. Handle all child disciplinary action in accordance with the Program Manual. Complete all necessary forms, speak to parents, consult, and inform Corps Officer of action taken.
11. Develop a community outreach link; to promote the program and fill open slots.
12. Drive vehicles, as needed for trips, and daily pick-ups, etc.
13. Maintain attendance records, medical release forms and other paperwork for statistical and official purposes.
14. Complete and submit on a timely basis, all state local and Salvation Army reports.
15. Ensure compliance with all state and local licensing regulations.
16. Keep up with fees owed to The Salvation Army to avoid excessive debts
17. Build bridges and encourage children to participate in Corps programs
18. Maintain licenses and permits related to the childcare program
19. Research and maintain knowledge of leading-edge program trends.

• Define current child development and program related outcomes
• Develop and conduct program assessments annually.

1. Seek new opportunities for Kids Club to expand its social mission through new initiatives and development of strategic collaborations.
2. Represent The Salvation Army through effective participation in local and state child and after school care networks.

• Interact in a way that is informed of developments that affect the Kids Club.
• Represent the Kids Club by participating in organizations that enhance the Corps goals.

1. Responsible for incorporating best practice research to enhance program design and delivery, including enhancing parent participation and the effective utilization of technology to enhance educational programming.
2. Secure public and private funding through the identification of funding sources and effective proposal writing.
