Seeks a junior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist/Technician to assist the TMPD Planning Data Solutions team in maintaining in-house planning web tool and providing GIS support to transportation planning staff.

The Transportation & Mobility Planning Division (TMPD) manages and administers the Pathways for Planning System (P4P). P4P is a GIS planning tool for maintaining data and information concerning planning activities including the Federal Functional Classification, National Highway System, Census urban area, future needs assessments, and other planning-associated layers. The system features data that includes: roadway inventory, traffic projections, and capacity analysis.

Responsibilities

Collect, manage, and analyze geospatial data from various sources.

Assist in the creation of detailed maps, charts, and reports using GIS software.

Perform geospatial data cleaning, manipulation, and quality control to ensure data accuracy.

Support the integration of spatial data with other datasets to provide insights for projects.

Evaluate data, tools, and web platforms for quality assurance and to identify errors and improvements

Maintain and update GIS databases and documentation.

Collaborate with other departments to provide GIS-related technical support and training as needed.

Research and stay updated on GIS tools, technologies, and best practices.

Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other developers to define and execute solutions for geospatial data visualization and analysis

Skills:

Skills Needed

Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and in ArcGIS Online data management, map creation, and app building. Required 1 Years

Familiarity with database management tools and formats (e.g., Oracle databases and/or PostgreSQL/PostGIS.) Required 1 Years

Basic knowledge in automating geospatial processes using python, model builder, or other techniques. Required 1 Years

Understanding of programming basics. Required 1 Years

Familiarity with Python and SQL, especially in a GIS environment. Highly desired 1 Years

Web mapping experience, especially in an AWS environment and using Mapbox. Desired 1 Years

Familiarity with other programming languages, especially R, HTML, JSON. Desired 1 Years

Question 1 Is candidate willing and able to work 3 days/wk onsite in Richmond, VA? This is REQUIRED, NO exceptions
