The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join its talented Finance team at its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
The Junior Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager and assists with the Institute's daily accounting operations. This position requires working on-site in Arlington five days a week.

Responsibilities:
- Process daily receipts and receivables, including donations from all sources, and collaborate closely with the Development department to ensure the timely and accurate accounting of contributions.
- Record financial transactions daily, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Respond to and resolve financial inquiries promptly.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closings by preparing assigned reconciliations and journal entries.
- Support annual audits by preparing assigned schedules and documentation.
- Assist with accounts payable, staff reimbursements, and credit card reconciliations.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and adhere to financial standards and regulations.
- Continuously enhance accounting knowledge and stay updated on industry trends.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager and perform additional tasks as assigned to contribute to the success of the Finance team.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all work.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (preferred), finance, or business administration.
- 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Experience with accounting software and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Experience with Intacct and Concur is preferred.
- Ability to work on-site five days a week.
- Flexible work hours with core business hours from 10 am to 4 pm
