About the Job
Our client's company specializes in providing truck and trailer services, including A/C and heating, diesel service, fleets, preventative maintenance, and transmission. They are currently seeking a Journeyman Heavy Duty Diesel Technician to join their team.
As a Journeyman Heavy Duty Diesel Technician, you will be responsible for accurately diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining class 5 through class 8 trucks and trailing equipment to high-quality standards.
Journeyman Diesel Technician Job Responsibilities
- Conduct front-line mechanic inspections, preventive maintenance services, and DOT inspections on diesel and gasoline vehicles, as well as trailers.
- Repair air and hydraulic brake systems, suspension, steering components, starting and charging systems, and drive train components such as transmissions and differentials.
- Address engine repairs, air conditioning systems, and electrical and lighting systems using diagnostic tools and measuring instruments.
- Perform welding and fabrication with various materials, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Perform minor repairs on semi-trailers and truck cargo boxes.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns in the field and assist other mechanics.
- Safely operate company vehicles and adhere to local, state, federal, and company policies.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, adhere to safety guidelines, and document repairs and maintenance activities.
- Provide excellent customer service, maintain positive working relationships, and display professional conduct with various stakeholders.
- Operate a forklift as necessary for repairs and moving heavy parts.
Qualifications
- Possess 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the field or a combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrate a high level of skill in diagnosing issues, initiating tasks, and completing them independently.
- Have own hand and air tools along with storage for these tools.
- Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record, with a CDL preferred but not mandatory.
- Successfully complete a criminal history background check, as per customer requirements.
- Have the physical capability to lift and install various parts required for the job.
