Springfield Plywood & Veneer

Position Title: Electrician

Reports to: Maintenance Director

Department: Maintenance

Hours per shift: Employee works 10-12 hours per day; two or three 10-minute rest breaks and one 30-minute unpaid meal period during the day.

Wage: Depending on Qualifications

Position Purpose: Maintain high levels of production by minimizing downtime by providing both predictive and preventive maintenance on all equipment. Brings forth issues and resolves them through formal action planning. Works closely with all members of the Maintenance, Production, & Management Teams.

Position Functions:

Level One Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Must have current State of Oregon Journeyman Electrician card.

Must be familiar with the mill electrical system. (MCC’s, disconnects, machines, and conveying systems).

Blue print reading.

Installations by code.

Able to install conduit level, straight, according to code or better depending on application.

Able to troubleshoot and repair 120 vac to 480 vac control power.

Able to troubleshoot and repair low voltage AC and DC.

Troubleshoot power supplies of all types. Etc low voltage, multi voltage, and constant voltage.

Make prints of installations complete

Troubleshoot 3-phase power, MCC’s, motors, relay logic and aux contacts.

Level Two Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

In addition to all elements of level 1, the following are required:

Good understanding of machine center control / electrical systems.

Allen Bradley PLC program schools.

Know how to use timers, counters, basic ladder logic, and force functions.

Know how to troubleshoot PLC program logic.

Troubleshoot PLC and its components, replace processors and modules.

Basic understanding of AC frequency drives and soft starters.

Understand plant optimizer systems; how to restart systems and calibrate scanner systems.

Understand plant production and downtime reports. Know how to reset and restart computer system.

Understand HMI systems. Know how to reset and restart computer system.

Understand plant PanelView and MessageView systems.

Understand Plant PLC network.

PLC programming / Frequency drive classes once per year.

Level Three Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Essential Functions: In addition to all elements of level 1 and level 2

Complete understanding of machine center control / electrical systems.

Understand plant optimizer systems on how to change configuration files and how to back up systems.

Understand plant production and downtime report system. Know how to change and add information to the report system. Know how to back up the systems.

Understand HMI systems. Know how to change and add/remove information to the system. Know how to back up the systems.

Understand PanelView and MessageView systems. Know how to change and add/remove information to the system. Know how to back up the systems.

Understand the Plant PLC network and how to change it.

Layout and complete moderately complex projects to include:

1. Conduit layout
2. Wire sizing
3. Control wiring
4. MCC & motor sizing

Level Four/Lead Electrician Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Essential Functions: In addition to all elements of level 1, level 2 and level 3.

Must have current State of Oregon Journeyman Electrician Supervisor card.

Monitor and report electrical maintenance performance to Electrical Department Supervisor.

Work with the controls technician in scheduling all electrical personnel on projects or mill modifications to reduce cost of outside contractors and improve the knowledge of mill electricians.

Identify areas representing production bottlenecks and lost recovery opportunities. Develop action plans to provide solutions.

Note: All level changes are to be evaluated by the plant Controls Tech / Electrical
Supervisor. Some additional requirements may be necessary. Such as demonstration of specific skills deemed necessary for evaluation.

Non-Essential Functions

These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment: (1) Inside 50%, average temperature 60 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. (2) Outside 50%. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Dry Wood, Welding, Cutting, Grinding Gasses: Acetylene, Poor Ventilation: Some.

Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear. (5) Safety vest or high visibility coveralls.

Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.

Skills: Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
