Our Customer’s Mission:
The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is a federal agency under the United States Department of Energy (DOE) that manages and operates high-voltage electric transmission systems across 15 western states. WAPA's mission is to market and deliver reliable, cost-based, renewable power and transmission services to its customers, while also promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. WAPA also manages and markets power from 56 federal hydroelectric power plants, which generate clean and renewable energy for 40 million customers.
Epsilon provides comprehensive and high-quality IT support to WAPA in the areas of; Software maintenance and development, Network, Database, and Operations Support/Management, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Cyber-Security, Solution Architecture, and Project Management.
An average day:
As Java Developer II, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of integration solutions using Java and TIBCO technologies. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions, support commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom applications, and assist with implementing software updates and configurations. As Java Developer II, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of integration solutions using Java and TIBCO technologies. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions, support commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom applications, and assist with implementing software updates and configurations. In this position you will:
- Collaborate with the software development team to design and implement integration solutions using TIBCO and Java technologies.
- Assist in the development, deployment, and maintenance of TIBCO integrations, ensuring efficient and reliable functionality.
- Apply software updates and releases to production environments following established procedures and timelines.
- Provide IT support for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-developed applications, including report writing tools and integration solutions.
- Support the installation, upgrading, and removal of COTS and custom-developed software.
- Work closely with IT teams, business staff, and Federal managers to gather requirements, define solutions, and develop integration strategies.
- Implement solutions with a "COTS first" mindset, customizing only when significant business value is identified.
- Adhere to software and hardware configuration management standards and procedures.
- Communicate progress and updates to project managers as required.
- Assist end-users by gathering business requirements, developing information architecture, and recommending solutions for enterprise service bus technologies.
- As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in Java development, with some exposure to TIBCO or similar integration platforms preferred.
- Familiarity with business analysis, requirements documentation, and data modeling concepts.
- Proficient in coding, testing, and debugging COTS and custom-developed applications.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Exposure to web application development, Oracle technologies, API-based integration (JMS, SOAP, REST), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust.
- This position may require the ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver’s license.
