Overview:Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for ITS and traffic signals construction/maintenance projects.
Responsibilities:Leadership and Direction
- Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
At the Operational and Company Level
- Assist in the maintenance of existing client relationships.
Do the Work
- Identify and make appropriate field adjustments; refers engineering changes for appropriate review and action.
- Prepare correspondence to communicate with agency and contractor personnel.
- Maintain detailed records.
- Perform and document required inspections and testing.
- Communicate with the agency and contractor personnel.
- Compute daily pay quantities and prepare field adjustment estimates, inform project management of issues that arise in the field and assist in resolution as directed and contribute feedback to Project Inspector for evaluations for all prime contractors and agreed-upon subcontractors.

- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
- One or more (1+) years of traffic signal or ITS experience or Three or more (3+) years highway construction experience required.
- Must possess and maintain the following certifications and training:
- SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor
- SCDOT Portland Cement Concrete Level 1 & 2
- Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection (CEPSCI)
- Ledstar (1- or 2-day)
- DMS Maintenance Training
- Optelecom Basic Data and Troubleshooting (2-day)
- Road Snap Highway Advisory Radio (1-day)
- Exothermic Weld (1-day)
- IMSA, ETA or BICSI Fiber Optic certifications preferred.
- Familiarity with Intelligent Transportation Systems, signals, dynamic message signs, electronics, and installation of conduit and junction boxes for state government or municipal traffic systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience in inspection and management with transportation, utility, transit, and/or building construction.
- Experience coordinating inspection duties with multiple simultaneously operating crews, tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, performing monthly estimates and as-built drawings preferred.
- Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
- Mobility around an office environment.
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
- Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 75 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
