About the Job
Under the direct supervision of the Information Technology director, the incumbent performs a variety of activities including; order, install, and assist in the maintenance of a variety of systems related to the Townships technology infrastructure; Research computer equipment and peripherals; Enter department material requisitions; Respond to technology work order requests; Answer telephone calls from users requiring technical support. Systems supported include, but are not limited to, the following: Wireless network equipment, copper cable infrastructure, and fiber infrastructure; data routing and switching equipment; network servers and workstations; telecommunications infrastructure; Geographic Information Systems hardware and software; Various server based SQL relational database programs, Desktop applications including the Microsoft Office Suite of applications; Electronic Mail systems including Office 365; Web-servers; Security infrastructure; Backup systems; Other technology based hardware and software systems as required.
DUTIES
Lift, move, assemble, and mount network workstations, servers, switches, routers, equipment racks, and other technology systems. Equipment will sometimes be installed in confined spaces or in areas that are difficult to access.
Order, install, maintain and support end-user hardware and software associated with the Townships technology infrastructure including networked computers, cables, switches, routers, printers and associated peripherals.
Perform maintenance tasks on the Townships Active Directory network and infrastructure.
Support the Townships server based technology systems, including, but not limited to workstations, servers, network based services, client based software applications, GIS, databases and all other services used to manage and serve data to employees and customers.
Support the Townships telecommunication equipment including cabling, patch panels, tracing equipment, telephones, soft telephone applications, telephone services and other associated equipment.
Ability to stablish and maintain effective relationships with vendors and service providers regarding delivery or installation of technology services, equipment, upgrades, and maintenance.
To a limited extent, make purchase recommendations, including helping users assess needs, and providing justification for equipment and services.
Maintain cooperative relationships with Township employees.
Perform other related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or a minimum of 2 years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance plus Computer Science certification such as Cisco Certified Network Associate accreditation.
Work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Manage technical documentation.
Communicate well with a variety of system users ranging from those with no technical experience at all, to those with substantial and specialized technical expertise with mission specific hardware and software. Serve as first point of contact for error reporting.
Evaluate simple technical issues and communicate important facts related to these functions with other members of the technology staff.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
Work effectively with onsite and remote workers.
Perform routine technology updates to all varieties of hardware and software. May upgrade entire system to enable compatible software on all computers.
Research various hardware and software, and present findings to other technical staff.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships, use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with other departments, professional contacts, Township officials, other employees, representatives of other governmental units, citizens, and customers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effectively use ancillary office equipment & technology, including computers & related software, and the ability to quickly understand new technologies without major issue.
Remain up to date on desktop applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Applications, and/or BS&A applications. Provide end-users a path for resolution to issues with these applications.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person, on the telephone, and via electronic mediums. The incumbent will sit, use a keyboard & mouse, and view computer screens for extended periods. The employee must occasionally move between different facilities both around and outside the Townships boundaries. The employee must occasionally diagnose & repair computer hardware and software problems involving small components, long strings of random characters, difficult connectors, and complicated electronics. The employee is occasionally required to utilize a wide variety of tools and various related supplies. The employee is frequently required to enter information and commands into a computer to produce both paper and electronic documents.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee normally works in a business office setting, but will require regular visits to maintenance areas, server rooms, supply closets, network closets, vehicles, storage areas, and various other less standard and/or controlled environments throughout our facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but some work areas have equipment that will produce extreme noise. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, works with strong cleaning chemicals, and must lift and/or move moderately heavy equipment.
