About the Job
The Stony Brook School is seeking a full-time, 12-month IT Support Technician to join our team! In this entry-level role, you'll play a vital part in supporting staff, students, and faculty by troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues with a focus on exceptional customer service. You'll manage helpdesk tickets, provide on-site technical assistance, and help ensure the smooth operation of our IT systems. Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Serve as the first point of contact for technical issues via helpdesk, phone, or email.
- Respond to inquiries with friendly, clear, and solution-oriented communication
- Provide basic troubleshooting and support for hardware, software, and network issues, both remotely and in-person.
Ticket Management & Escalation:
- Track and manage helpdesk tickets, ensuring prompt resolution and clear communication.
- Document issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions for future reference.
- Escalate complex issues to appropriate team members and ensure timely follow-up on open tickets.
On-Site Support:
- Offer in-person IT support across campus, including installing equipment to troubleshooting hardware.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of workstations, printers, and network hardware.
Project Collaboration:
- Support the IT team in project delivery, contributing to short-term and long-term initiatives both on-site and remotely.
Communication & Reporting:
- Regularly update customers on ticket status, keeping them informed throughout the process.
- Assist with documentation, timesheets, and reporting on fieldwork activities.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with fellow technicians and the Director of Technology to maintain a high standard of service.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to build skills and share best practices.
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly address common technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Basic knowledge of operating systems, business software, printing systems, and networking.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting IT systems, particularly with Google Workspace and standard business applications.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tickets effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools, systems, and processes.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with helpdesk ticketing systems or remote monitoring tools (PSA, RMM).
- IT certifications such as Microsoft MCP, MCSA, or ITIL.
- Familiarity with academic environments or experience working in a Managed Service Provider (MSP).

Salary Range: $24.00 - $31.25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
