The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) is a dedicated Information Technology unit that uniquely supports the goals of the Vice President for Research within the University of Minnesota's Research & Innovation O ice (RIO). ORIS is a central resource that services and supports over 800 research administrative and academic staff located across the Twin Cities, Morris, Rochester, Duluth, and Crookston campuses.
ORIS's mission is to identify, implement, and sustain information system solutions to benefit all aspects of RIO's business. The Office of Information Systems (ORIS) is seeking an IT Project Manager to advance system roadmaps for information systems used to support life-changing research. This role is responsible for managing a multi-year project to implement an enterprise research administration system. This role is responsible for implementing a new SaaS system used by UMN researchers to coordinate
essential elements of pre-clinical lab-based research. This role will coordinate with the vendor's project manager to implement the tool and coordinate with stakeholders to identify and solution critical requirements that fall outside of scope for the SaaS solution. It will also work with the business unit to coordinate outreach, communication, and training to university staff and research faculty.

Job Responsibilities
- Project Management & Support (80%)
- Manage and inspire a diverse project team in a mostly virtual/remote work environment. Project work will include on-campus work time as needed for tours, job shadowing, and in-person meetings.
- Bring expertise from other ERP implementations to bear to solve technical, resource, and business problems that arise during the course of the implementation
- Partner with the business owner and ORIS/Research Systems Support Manager to formulate and define the system scope and objectives, creating and managing the project plan (coordinated with the vendor's) along with all key project management artifacts.
- Work with clients (RAR subject matter experts & extended project team) to compare current and future-state business processes and align technology solutions and change management e orts with short and long-term business strategies.
- Serve as project manager to the UMN-side of the implementation team; collaboratively planning the new system implementation with the vendor PM, advocating for stakeholder needs, coordinating tasks, managing progress and risks, coordinating quality assurance, communicating to stakeholders, updating the project budget, and employing continuous improvement practices.
- Lead team in documenting detailed functional/technical system specifications.
- Coordinate with the vendor, business, and ORIS Data Services team to ensure reporting requirements encompass operational and analytical needs including but not limited to work processes, regulatory requirements, workload management, trend analysis, key performance indicators, dashboards, and business decision making.
- Coordinate with the vendor and the ORIS Data Services team to design a reporting strategy that identifies and fills gaps between vendor-delivered reports/tools/systems and the reporting requirements. Ensure there are plans and processes in place to make all critical data from the legacy system(s) available for timely response to reporting and analysis needs.
- Lead efforts to provide technical training and guidance to support staff.
- Ensure excellent customer service to faculty, research administration, and RIO personnel through soliciting and incorporating user feedback, identifying training needs, improving business/systems communication, and incorporating continuous improvement practices.
- Partner with the business to ensure regulation and/or policy-driven requirements are met.
- Develop a working knowledge of RIO business units, RIO enterprise research technology systems, and the larger UMN technology infrastructure.
- Production Support (20%)
- Work with the RSS manager to prepare for the transition to operations after go live.
- Support quality assurance e orts, including developing, maintaining and executing test plans, and documenting test scripts, statistics, metrics, and results.
- Coordinate the retirement of the historical systems.
- Coordinate with ORIS managers to identify SaaS solution gaps, recommend and coordinate solutions.
- Coordinate with business analysts, technical developers, and the vendor to evaluate issue patterns. Plan and recommend process improvement.
- Communicate technology issues in a way that is understandable to staff, faculty, and administration at all levels of the organization.

Required Qualifications
- BA/BS plus at least four years of experience in the area of IT Project Management, or
- master's degree plus at least two years of experience in the area of IT Project Management.
- Experience managing projects pertaining to information technology implementations, operations, and upgrades.
- Experience with software development cycle, including Agile development.
- Experience with business analysis, functional and technical requirements, as-is and to-be process mapping, quality assurance, and change management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Certified (PMP or other certification).
- Experience working with commercial SaaS software implementations
- Experience leading multi-year ERP project >$2M
- Experience working in research, sponsored projects, and/or higher education.
- Experience working with data regulated by federal, state, and/or local law, policy or agreement.
- Application UI, UX, Database query knowledge and/or data analysis experience.
- Quality Assurance experience; writing and executing manual and/or automated test
- scripts.
- Familiar with waterfall, and Agile and/or Scaled Agile methodologies.
