Position Summary
The IT Practice Applications Engineer will assist in the design, installation, deployment, support and administration of legal-specific applications in a Cloud (SAAS), Citrix, local workstation, and web application environments. Research, evaluation, gather requirements from the business and take lead on deploying new technologies to meet the business needs. Responsible for varying levels of project coordination, development, and leadership. Serve as an internal technology consultant to others in the department.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for applications and systems including the analysis, design, evaluation, installation, implementation, development, and global deployment.
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain application installation packages via scripts, group policy for use across various firm wide systems.
- Advanced level administration and support of various legal practice applications and systems. Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve issues with on-premise applications, web applications and cloud environments. This includes working with other technical teams and/or escalating with vendor to resolve software and system related issues
- Evaluate and recommend applications, solutions based on business needs, requirements.
- Lead, consult and assist with various legal practice, e-discovery, litigation teams with data transfers and ongoing data management. Includes advanced administration and support of cloud-based file transfter platform(s) and storage management of data file shares.
- Investigate and resolve application and system problems that have been escalated. Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve problems related to application software.
- Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the applications and system security including patch management, vulnerability remediation, and security auditing.
- Be familiar with desktop and laptop imaging processes and be able to create custom images as needed for trial laptops, administration/development servers, and Citrix servers.
- Maintain skill level and knowledge through formal and informal means.
- Share critical support duties when necessary during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Appropriately communicate the status of tasks to the manager and others with a need to know.
- May volunteer or be selected to serve on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various firm wide Information Technology initiatives. Initiatives may be specific one-time events (e.g., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree or other training in IT discipline, or equivalent experience. SQL, Citrix and/or Microsoft Certifications (MCSE) a plus. Additional training/certification preferred.
Experience:
Required: At least two years experience with installation, configuration and deployment of applications. Understanding of application delivery to desktops, laptops, and servers. Administering Windows, Servers. An understanding of basic network architectures, terminology, and functions. Experience with Microsoft M365 and other cloud technologies. MS Office productivity tools (e.g., Office, Project, Visio).
Preferred: Experience in a law firm environment utilizing or supporting various legal practice specific applications including litigation support systems and other specialized software applications. Deploying applications in a virtual environment (e.g., Citrix) a plus. Familiarization with PowerShell, SQL, and PowerBI .Experience with SCCM, Altiris, and Citrix a plus.
Skills: Able to work independently, as part of a team, and work closely with other teams across the department and organization. Critical to this position is strong analytical and problem solving abilities, creativity, the ability to organize and prioritize workload and remain flexible in an environment of multiple and constantly changing priorities. Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and comfort level communicating with individuals at all levels within the organization. Able to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
