The IT Physician/Clinician Application Liaison reports to the Manager of IT Phys/Clinician Applications, under the direction of the IT Training Director. Responsible for supporting physicians, physician extenders, and clinicians in the navigation and utilization of multiple clinical information systems that impact their daily work processes, as well as troubleshooting complex system issues across the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network. Also responsible for providing Electronic Health Record (EPIC) education, including but not limited to how to correctly input clinical information, utilize best practices to save clinician time, and demonstrate how physicians and clinicians can obtain needed information from EPIC. An important aspect of this position is becoming a team member that provides at-the-elbow physician supportive services across HMH, as well as providing new-hire EPIC training to clinicians for network system access. Additionally, works with administration and physician leadership to increase physician usage; understand barriers to adoption and will suggest ways to address either through workflow or proposed system changes.
This is position is at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and you will need to cover sites in the southern area as needed. This would include Riverview Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Ocean University Medical Center.
Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a IT Physician/Clinician Application Liaison at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Coaches, mentors, and provides one-on-one at the elbow support for physicians and members of the clinical team in gaining and maintaining competency in use of clinical information and communication systems.
- Collaborates closely with IT educators, analysts, and the clinical community to provide support and communications for clinical systems projects and initiatives.
- Routes requests for changes to appropriate venues for vetting and approval, including use of service desk/ticketing applications as needed.
- Communicates with physicians and their office staff to ensure that requests/problems are resolved and that users are satisfied with the resolution. Initiates and follows up on any additional required action.
- Utilizes prioritization for time management, efficacy and positive outcomes. Coordinates technology and informational processes related to software implementation initiatives.
- Serves as an IT liaison to the physician community regarding their utilization of the applications: Provides functional support for both physicians and clinicians in EPIC and other applications as needed, including order entry, physician portal, clinical documentation, remote access assist, Dragon voice dictation, secure texting, and mobile versions of same as applies.
- Provides education/training services for new hires, as well as to the clinical and physician community regarding utilization of applications, including visitation to key physician offices to train both the doctor and their staff.
- Provides supplementary Electronic Health Records (EHR) orientation for new staff and deploys ongoing training for EHR changes.
- Acts as the EHR resource for responding to questions and queries from physicians and other staff members about EHR operability or data availability.
- Works effectively and professionally with IT and other departments to resolve issues.
- Works to increase usability, promote adoption and create sustainability of the EHR through multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provides front-line customer support during and after implementations and extended downtimes.
- Plans, organizes, prioritizes and processes work to ensure that project goals related to specific tasks deadlines are met.
- Collaborates with EPIC system specialists on curriculum, KBs and training environment updates for EPIC training needs.
- Collaborates with the training coordinators for room assignments and scheduling needs in the Learning Management (LMS) system.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Associate's degree.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in the clinical area (i.e. PCT/NUS/Education/HIM) in which the role interacts directly with providers and has previous use of clinical applications, preferably EPIC.
- Basic proficiency with business-type applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Google Product line).
- Medical Terminology experience/Electronic Medical Records system experience.
- Previous role in which applicant provided research and troubleshooting of `issues' and concerns to resolution
- Strong organizational skills and abilities.
- Drivers License/dependable transportation for self to travel between Network campuses as needed.
- Must have flexible working hours as well as flexibility scheduling and travel
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, delivering high quality solutions and playing an integral part of a cohesive team.
- Exceptional ability to successfully work together with nursing, ancillary, physician, and all teams at all levels.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous `Super User' experience with clinical systems.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience providing system support to physicians and clinical staff; or a minimum of 2+ years of experience working in a clinical setting with daily use of an electronic medical record.
- Previous experience with EPIC systems or equivalent Clinical Application Vendor.
- Minimum of 3+ years of proven knowledge of clinical workflows and track record of providing excellent support to physicians and clinical staff.
