Role Overview
The Eastern Communications Ltd. IT Network Engineer is an internal facing position to support the design, implementation, and on-going administration of entire network ecosystem. As the network engineer, you will not only work with members of the IT department, but also cross-functionally with field engineers and project managers when integrating our Managed Services and NOC (Network Operations Center) with client networks for remote monitoring and management. We have an expansive and diverse network ecosystem comprised of many tier-one providers such Cisco, Dell, and VMware. The role will also oversee the deployment and operational management of our internal telephony system. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of two days per week in office requirement along with a rotating on-call schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement network architectures that align with the organization's business objectives and growth plans.
- Design and implement network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other network devices.
- Create and maintain network diagrams and documentation.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot network equipment.
- Configure network protocols, such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and routing protocols.
- Implement network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control lists.
- Review risks and make appropriate recommendations.
- Monitor network performance and identify potential issues.
- Troubleshoot network problems and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain network documentation and update as needed.
- Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging network security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Participate in network infrastructure projects, from planning and design to implementation and maintenance.
- Coordinate with other IT teams and departments to ensure successful project execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols, VPNs).
- Experience with network devices from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet).
- Knowledge of network security best practices and tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as CCNP, or CCIE.
- Experience with cloud-based networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix).
