About the Job
ROLE:
The key objectives for the role are:
- Input into Intertek's strategic infrastructure strategy, in regard to hosting (cloud, on‐prem)
- Design and implement projects to ensure Intertek hosting facilities remain fit for purpose (capacity, supportability, uptime, performance, security)
- Solve new business needs and requests to ensure the right solution is chosen, and delivered to the business in accordance to expectations (timeline, quality, costs)
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO ON THE JOB:
- Pro‐actively create and maintain data center roadmaps 1 to 3 years to represent changes and investments required to keep the data centers aligned to expectations and strategy
- M anage capacity utilization and forecasts working with other members of the IT organization, and factor capacity growth into roadmap & investment plans
- Ensure data center designs (storage, compute, network) are documented and keep up to date. In case of documentation gaps, create plans to address and resolve over time
- Translate new business requirements into hosting solution, and create associated designs / timelines / costings.
- Create solution and designs for new projects: understand business needs, translate into technical needs and solutions, provide several solutions as needed to act as business partner
- Create detailed designs (at BOM / SKU level) as/if required
- Oversee the implementation of approved projects and act as the accountable party to ensure approved designs have been effectively implemented and to ensure the performance of the live system match requirements. Implement corrective actions as required
- Ensure designs are adequately documented and handed over to delivery & operational teams after implementation
- Ensure the team provides support ("level 3") to operational activities in case expert advice is required. Factor learnings into "business as usual" operations to improve the quality of support, e.g. upskill personnel, improve documentation, refactor designs, review 3rd party support contracts etc.
- Support and contribute to strategic discussion on hosting strategies such as cloud migrations
- Create and manage strong relationships with vendors / partners • Manage engineering team predominantly off‐shore based.
- Contribute to share knowledge, skills and help develop the teams skills and overall capabilities
- Drive talent development in engineering and operational teams by means of coaching, training, community of practices or any other opportunity Keep abreast of new technologies development by means of own research, peer discussions, vendor discussions, forums, conferences. Share knowledge and ideas within the teams
WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:
- Bachelor's degree
- Proven track record with over 10+ years of managing infrastructure in a large and global environment where services must be up and performant 24x7
- Deep experience of data center designs and strong expertise in at least one component of the storage/compute/network stack
- Strong practical knowledge of the FlexPod design is a must
- Knowledge of cloud technologies Azure or AWS is a plus
- A bility to hold vendors accountable for achieving desired business results.
- Adaptive to changing business needs and the ability to work in a variety of different business situations.
- Experience in delivering in high complex and dynamic environments.
