Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS) offers a challenging and comprehensive curriculum built on the philosophy of Maria Montessori to children aged two years through eighth grade. Students work and learn in mixed-age classes led by teaching teams of thoughtful and well-trained professionals. The students have exposure to a full range of academic and artistic courses. BHMS also offers an after-school program and a summer day camp. Job Description: IT Director
Start Date: June 16, 2025
Reports to:Chief Financial Officer
Brief Description:The IT Director will support the overall technology presence as it relates to end-user support, infrastructure, and administration including the management of day-to-day operations. The IT Director provides guidance to staff while supporting the management of operational activities to achieve the department’s and school’s long and short-range goals.
Responsibilities
Technology Support
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all school technology (computers, servers, printers, projectors, photocopiers, communications systems (including VOIP telephone, fax, and paging systems), walkie-talkies, digital signage, ID Card System (including faculty/student check-in/out systems, prox card entry systems, and visitor management system).
- Maintain network, help system, hardware, and software services
- Assist staff with systems such as Veracross, Blackbaud, Google Suite, Ravenna, Magnus Health
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer on setting and managing the operating and capital budgets for technology
- Oversee technical support to faculty, staff, and students on all technology-related issues
- Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School to provide professional development training for faculty and staff
- Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School to support educational technology-related initiatives, integration, and implementation and provide leadership in the areas of hardware and software acquisition
- Provide audio/visual support to the community, especially for Visual and Performing Arts classes
- Collaborate with the Program Heads to plan and teach classes on technology education to elementary and middle school students
- Collaborate with the Librarian and STEAM Teacher on parent education programming
Infrastructure
- Manage internal computer and phone network (including wireless network) ensuring stability and uptime
- Ensure the security of school data with backup procedures including off-site backup
- Maintain a current inventory of all hardware and software
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to manage contracts and relationships with service and support vendors (internet service providers, managed copy services, telecommunications vendors, etc.)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar discipline or 5 years experience in a similar position at a school
- Previous experience working in an independent school
- Working knowledge and experience with school information management systems such as Blackbaud, Veracross, Google Suite, Ravenna, Magnus Health
- Proficiency with MacOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Device Management systems like JAMF or Addigy
- Demonstrated understanding of information technology security principles and best practices
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school faculty, staff, administrators
- Willingness to work with students in a classroom setting
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in written and oral format
- Honesty and personal integrity as overarching values in dealing with others
- Organizational skills, capabilities for self‐direction, flexibility, and practicality to respond to changing priorities and unexpected situations
- A team player with a positive outlook who seeks solutions to problems
