ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s growing Cloud Operations team is seeking an IT Automation and Systems Administrator to join our team. You will be joining a team of highly skilled IT professionals supporting a growing list of applications and internal initiatives.
The position plays a critical role in streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of applications and systems through automation, aiming to reduce manual intervention, minimize errors, and increase productivity across various processes. This role requires strong expertise in PowerShell for developing robust scripts, managing systems, and automating tasks. The candidate must be proficient in PowerShell for effective system administration within Windows environments, including user management, software deployment, and configuration settings. Additionally, expertise in Python is essential for handling a wide range of automation tasks, such as data processing, integrating with APIs, and managing complex workflows.
A key strength required for this position is the ability to implement and manage a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) enterprise logging system. The candidate must have experience in setting up comprehensive logging frameworks that collect, centralize, and analyze log data from different applications and systems. Their expertise will ensure the organization can proactively monitor system health, detect and respond to incidents, and gain valuable insights from log data.
In summary, the successful candidate will leverage their expertise in PowerShell and Python to automate and optimize operations while managing an enterprise logging system to enhance monitoring and analysis.
Core Responsibilities
- Development and Maintenance of Automation Scripts:
- Utilize PowerShell and Python to create, test, and maintain automation scripts that streamline system administration tasks and enhance application workflows. Responsibilities include automating user management, software deployment, configuration settings, data processing, and integrating with various APIs to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Optimization of IT Infrastructure and Application Performance:
- Continuously evaluate and enhance the efficiency and performance of the organization's IT infrastructure and applications through automation. This involves troubleshooting and resolving issues with existing scripts, optimizing code for better performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for further automation and process improvements.
- Design, Deployment, and Management of Enterprise Logging Systems:
- Design, deploy, and manage a comprehensive logging platform that collects, centralizes, and analyzes log data from different applications and systems. Ensure the logging system supports proactive monitoring, incident detection and response, and provides valuable insights to enhance IT operational performance and security.
- System Administration:
- Assist in the administration of various programs deployed in the organization, including the installation, upgrade, and testing of software. Provide troubleshooting skills to assist the team in understanding potential problems and solutions.
- Technical Leadership and Support:
- Provide technical leadership and support to junior team members and other departments. This includes offering guidance on best practices for script development, automation strategies, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Continuous Improvement and Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all automation processes and logging systems. Actively seek out new tools, techniques, and industry trends to continuously improve the organization’s automation capabilities and stay ahead in the field.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in working with automation scripts, administration of various software applications, and workflow optimization
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a directly related field.
- Experience with PowerShell and Python.
- Experience with relational databases.
- General networking concepts and principles.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience working in cloud environments is a plus.
