About the Job
SchurMed is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Inventory Management & Purchasing Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining optimal inventory levels, ensuring timely procurement of materials, and supporting the company's production and compliance needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inventory management and purchasing, coupled with an understanding of the regulatory requirements specific to medical devices.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory levels to ensure adequate stock while minimizing excess and obsolescence.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and reconciliations to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Implement inventory tracking systems to monitor usage, forecast demand, and manage reordering schedules.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and sales teams to align inventory with operational and customer needs.
Purchasing:
- Source and procure materials, components, and equipment required for production and operations.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Maintain relationships with vendors to ensure timely deliveries and resolve any supply chain issues.
- Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring adherence to regulatory and quality standards.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all inventory and purchasing activities comply with medical device industry regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
- Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records for audits, inspections, and reporting purposes.
- Work with quality assurance to ensure incoming materials meet required specifications and certifications.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize inventory management and procurement workflows.
- Utilize data and analytics to identify trends, improve forecasting, and reduce lead times.
- Support the development of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for inventory and purchasing functions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in inventory management, purchasing, or supply chain, preferably in the medical device or healthcare industry.
- Familiarity with medical device regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, GMP).
- Proficiency in inventory management and ERP software (e.g., SAP, NetSuite) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Strong negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- APICS or other supply chain certifications are a plus.
- Experience with lean inventory management principles and process improvement methodologies.
