About the Job
Under the general direction of the CNO, employee health services nurse is responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive program of health services for all hospital employees and others.
The Clinical Educator is accountable to the Quality/Risk/ Infection Control Manager. The Educator’ s responsibility is to plan, provide and/or facilitate professional growth and development of hospital staff through the didactic process, role model and/or clinical education process.
The Educator’s responsibility is to support the delivery of safe patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation based on established clinical nursing practice standards.
Serves as a resource nurse, role model, and leader in health care administration. Supports the organizational vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient’ s age and cultural diversity into the education process for both staff and patients.
Contributes to the provision of quality of care through support of performance improvement processes that lead to positive outcomes in patient care.
Responsibilities:Demonstrates knowledge and skill of teaching principles and techniques for all level of learners to include cultural, spiritual and languages difference.
Demonstrates ability to communicate learning or provides appropriate communication or language assistance to meet learning needs to both patients and staff.
Demonstrates versatility in educational methodologies.
Demonstrates responsibility through responsiveness to others and competent follow up on matters requiring attention.
Demonstrates reliability in a conscientious and complete manner in which work assignments are performed.
Demonstrates compliance to employee handbook information, ethics and hospital regulations.
Demonstrates a self-directed, mature, disciplined and tactful approach to completing work duties.
Collaborates with managers and staff to assess learning needs of staff.
Designs programs and delivery systems in conjunction with specific needs of the department, staff and/or patients and management.
Assesses learning needs of patients appropriate to health care and department guideline for training.
Plans activities based on department and individual needs assessments.
Includes staff in patient education planning and training. Instructs staff in the patient education process as indicated.
Provides/monitors the provision of routine and emergency care to employees, recognizing urgent employee health situations and/or appropriate referrals are made based on quality, skilled assessment findings.
Provides competent care based upon policies and protocols with high quality interpersonal skills, determined as indicated above and through employee feedback.
Makes referrals when appropriate as reviewed by VP/administrative services with MDEHS, employee assistance professionals, human resources generalists and the director of human resources.
Serves as clinical resource to staff and employees providing counseling and advice pertaining to medical concerns including personal problems, work conflicts, alcohol, drug involvement, smoking, stress, weight/diet, and any other wellness-related problems.
Keeps clinical skills in line with current trends and developments in the employee health and other related fields.
Is responsible for department’s operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Maintains an effective quality improvement program as evidenced by reports.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
Develops, organizes, and implements employee healthcare preventive programs.
Responsible for maintaining OSHA log as required by the regulatory agency, according to the appropriate guidelines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at an accredited RN School of Nursing
Master’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.
A minimum of 2 years recent experience as a practitioner of nursing in acute care.
One year of experience as an educator preferred.
Current California RN license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
MAB certification / AB508 certification within 30 days of hire.
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
Basic computer knowledge is preferred
