About the Job
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the optical parameters (such as Wavelength, Optical Loss, Extinction Ratio and Intrinsic Specific Rotation) and learn how a Faraday Rotator works in laser based optical systems
- Learn the function of each part of the optical test station (e.g., polarizers, power meter, laser source, detector).
- Perform repeat measurements on test samples to certify the test station repeatability and performance in order to determine (or make) improvements as needed to bring the test station into production
Education & Experience
- Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in physical science (preferably Physics/Electrical Engineering) or interdisciplinary Optics/Photonics Engineering
- Experience with an Optics and/or Laser course or lab desired
- Hands on lab experience as part of an Optics and/or Laser course desired
- Experience using LabView software desired
Working Conditions
Lab environment working with an optical testing station. Test station will have low power lasers and very sensitive optical fibers, polarizers, etc. Test station uses a LabView interface software that runs on a PC next to the test station.
Physical Requirements
Be able to sit at a workstation in a testing lab to perform numerous optical testing. Must be careful working around delicate optical fibers and other optical components that are sensitive to misalignment.
